Visit of a foreign scientist

As a part of the program to attract foreign scientists to teaching, from November 1 to 28, 2021, Matej Balaz, a leading researcher at the Institute of Geotechnics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Kosice, Slovakia), worked at the department. He is a young (33 years old) scientist, one of the world's leading scientists in the field of mechanical activation. He is a member of the editorial board of Molecules journal, and an editor of Frontiers in Chemistry journal and scientific coordinator of the COST Action CA 18112: Mechanochemistry for Sustainable Industry program. In 2021 alone, he has 17 journal articles from the Scopus database, in most of the articles he is a correspondent author. The Hirsch index is 19 (Scopus).

During his visit, Matej Balaz gave a series of offline and online lectures for undergraduates and doctoral students of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology in the field of mechanochemistry and its practical application. The lecturer paid special attention to instrumental methods for characterizing materials, such as X-ray phase analysis, Raman spectroscopy, etc. 2 joint projects were prepared for participation in the competition for young scientists of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 3 articles were prepared for submission to the journals of the upper quartiles of Web of Science and Scopus. Plans for further cooperation between the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry and the Institute of Geotechnics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences were discussed.
