A webinar was held with a well-known domestic orientalist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.Kh. Abuseitova

On the organization of the Department of the Middle East and South Asia of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of KazNU Al-Farabi was invited by the director of the Republican Information Center for the Study of Historical Materials at the Institute of Oriental Studies. R.B. Suleimenov, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of History, Professor M.Kh. Abuseytov for a webinar on February 18, 2022 on the topic "Kazakhstan Oriental Studies: History and Modernity". The main goal of the webinar is to analyze the past and present of the domestic school of oriental studies and focus on the topic of continuity. Young orientalists were also acquainted with specialists who contributed to the development of domestic oriental studies, with the history of the Institute of Oriental Studies. R.B. Suleimenov and the main works done over the 30-year history of the Institute.

A well-known domestic scientist, Professor M.Kh. Abuseitova, who devoted her life to oriental studies, during the webinar identified a number of scientists who contributed to the formation of the modern school of oriental studies. Among them, R.B. Suleimenov, A.B. Derbisali, V.P. Yudin, K.A. Pishchulina and a number of well-known orientalists. The Institute of Oriental Studies, which survived the period when there was no special faculty for the training of Orientalists, showed an example of what can give a lot to today's young generation of Orientalists. She noted that the continuity between the older generation of Orientalists and the younger generation of Orientalists is a natural phenomenon and that much work remains to be done in the future. Professor M.Kh. Abuseitova as director of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after R.B. Suleimenova from 1998 till 2013, as well as the head of the republican program "Cultural Heritage" and also as the head of multi-volume scientific collections on the history of Kazakhstan in eastern sources, noted that she is ready to share her experience with young people.

During the webinar, she called on all orientalists to work together on such an important work, noting that the study of materials, artifacts, maps and documents written in oriental languages on the history and spirituality of Kazakhstan, stored in world famous libraries, is a long-term work. The webinar continued with questions and answers, and in the future, the webinar guest agreed to conduct similar training webinars for young orientalists, especially for students.
