The International Day of Clean Air

On September 7, 2020 in honor of the International Day of Clean Air for the Blue Sky a webinar organized by COMSATS Center for Climate and Sustainable Development (CCCS) was held. The purpose of conducting this webinar was to gather together experts and practitioners working in the field of air quality to share their knowledge, experience and risks in the field of air pollution, which is a serious problem. The webinar was attended by representatives from different countries, such as Kazakhstan, China, Japan, Pakistan, Tanzania and others.

The participants were employees and experts working for research and government organizations dealing with air quality issues. The webinar itself was held via Zoom platform and started with the welcoming speech of Shahid Kamal, the head of the Center for Climate and Sustainable Development. In his speech, he reflected the results of joint cooperation between partner countries and expressed the hope for mitigation of air quality problems through further cooperation. Experts shared the results of their research conducted in their respective countries.

During this webinar, Tursumbayeva Madina, a 1st year doctoral student of the specialty Meteorology, made a presentation. Her report highlighted the results of the joint work with American researchers from Iowa State University and is devoted to the development of a method for quantifying volatile organic compounds in the air. In the course of this work, a new method for quantifying volatile organic compounds was developed that can work up to twelve hours and can be used in countries with developing economies. At the end of the webinar, all participants shared their views on improving air quality.
