Literature in the modern world

On November 24, within the framework of the week of Russian literature in Almaty, at the site of the library of al-Farabi KazNU, the International Round Table "Literature and the Modern World" was held, organized by the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature of KazNU in cooperation with the Institute of Translation (Moscow) and the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies of al-Farabi KazNU.

The modern world throws many new challenges to literature. To comprehend the rapidly changing modernity, and even more so to write about it, is not an easy task. This is exactly what the masters of the pen - Anastasia Strokina, Guzel Yakhina, Oleg Shishkin - spoke to students and teachers of the Faculty of Philology. Russian writers shared their opinions on the present and future of literature, and Executive Director of the Institute of Translation Yevgeny Reznichenko spoke about the promotion of Russian literature in the world.

Akbope Berdievna Sikinbayeva, Director of the Library of al-Farabi KazNU, made a welcoming speech. She expressed confidence that such international meetings with writers from Russia will become traditional, thanks to the assistance and cooperation with the Institute of Translation.

The course of the meeting was moderated by Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature, Executive Director of the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies of al-Farabi KazNU N.Zh. Shaimerdenova and Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature, Director of the "ALTAIR" Academy of Children's Books J.B. Amanzholova.

The meeting was held both offline and online (for students and teachers of other universities). The participants of the meeting listened with great attention to all the speakers, were able to ask the guests questions about the work of writers, about trends in world and Russian literature, etc.

At the end of the meeting, books were donated to the library of al-Farabi KazNU in memory of the meeting, and everyone could get an autograph from writers.
