Language is an invalid heritage"

"Language is an outstanding achievement of the people and its integral and inseparable feature. The development of the language is entirely connected with the development of national culture, and in this regard, the language fulfills its social function." (From the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Languages in the Republic of Kazakhstan")

Everything that people do in the world is done with the help of language. It is impossible to work without it, it is unthinkable to move science, technology, art, and life forward one step. Language is the greatest human creation. It would be hard to imagine what would happen if the language disappeared. The word is the most perfect means of communication. A meeting with a worthy interlocutor, a heart-to-heart conversation, finding a common language, a kind clever word has been appreciated since ancient times in the culture of any nation striving for development. A child who babbles a new word after his mother, a pupil who puts letters into syllables, a student who diligently learns foreign languages – it is difficult to imagine our life without this. A modern young person must be fluent in several languages.

At the beginning of each academic year, the teaching staff of the Department of Foreign Languages annually conducts testing of 1st-year undergraduate students to determine their level of foreign language proficiency. Over the past two years, in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, teachers of the department have been actively using new types of teaching technologies. For example, remote testing of students is carried out in two stages: on the first day, students perform grammatical test online, and on the second day they pass an oral interview.

This year, the tests were created in the Google Forms format, which had to be completed on time. According to the results of the first day, students of the Higher School of Economics and Business who received high scores were invited to the second day of testing, which was held on September 3 and 4 in an oral online form on the University's Moodle platform and Zoom. The topic of the interview "Language is an invalid heritage!" was held within the framework of the week of languages of the Faculty of Philology and World Languages "Teacher of the Nation – A. Baitursynov", dedicated to the Day of Languages in Kazakhstan.

Candidate of Philological Sciences Aisultanova K.A. and senior teachers of the department Tleugabylova Z.A. and Makhazhanova L.M. noted the high level of English proficiency of all the students who took part in the oral conversation.

Having told about the importance of trilingualism in Kazakhstan, the students noted the fact that the state takes care of creating conditions for the study and development of the languages of the peoples of Kazakhstan. September 22 is a significant date that has become a common holiday for all the peoples of Kazakhstan, that every citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan has the right to use his native language, to freely choose the language of communication, learning and creativity.
