The republican scientific and practical conference "Modern Trends in Printing and Publishing: Traditions and Innovations" dedicated to the 80^th anniversary of writer, journalist, translator, publisher Serik Abdraimov was held at the Al-Farabi University Library. Well-known public figures, publishers, designers, colleagues, family members, professors and students took part at the conference.

Doctor of Philology, Professor Zhangara Dadebayev delivered the main report at the conference.

Serik Abdraimov was not only a writer and publicist, he brought up more than one generation of students. Since 1974 he has lectured at the Faculty of Journalism of KazGU. He also proved himself as a talented publisher, Serik Abdraimov was the organizer and general director of the publishing house "Kazakh University" (1990), on the basis of which in 1993 the publishing house "Sanat" was also launched.

The following speakers also made presentations at the event: writer, publisher, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan Beksultan Nurzhekeuly, writer, publisher, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kadirbek Segizbay, Rector of the Eurasian Law Academy named after D. Kunaev, Professor, Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan Omirali Zhalairi, writer Zeynep Akhmetova, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Abdraim, President of the Academy of Journalists of Kazakhstan, Professor Sagymbai Kozybayev, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Kazakhstan Kanseit Abdezuly, Vice-President of the Academy of Journalists of the Republic of Kazakhstan Valery Zhandauletov.

Within the framework of the conference, a photo exhibition "Moments of Life" and a book exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of S. Abdraimov were organized. The book "Gibratty Gumyr", dedicated to the life and work of Serik Abdraimov, was also presented in a solemn event.

At the end of the conference, the ceremony of awarding the winners of the "Abdraimov Readings" was held.
