At the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University for the Day of Science Workers, saplings of the Sivers apple tree were planted. The event was held jointly with the Ecological Association "ECOJER" and the movement of the Civil Initiative "Alma Qala".

The Chairman of the Board-Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev congratulated all those present on the Day of Science and focused on the instructions of the First President-Elbasy N. Nazarbayev and the Head of State K.K. Tokayev, dedicated to the development of science over the 30-year period of the country's independence. He also spoke about the history of the variety of apple trees "Sivers", planted in the town of KazNU, and proposed to name the new green area - "Garden of Scientists".

The event was attended by the founder of the movement of the Civil Initiative "Alma Qala" Yerlan Stambekov, in his speech he expressed his deep gratitude to KazNU "for the support and provision of a location for planting fruit trees that are on the verge of extinction and are listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan."

"Apple trees" Sivers "differ in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and tastes of fruits. They were transplanted from the main botanical garden of Almaty to the mountainous area under the guidance of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Academician Aimak Zhangaliev. Experts note that the genetic fund of Sivers apples, preserved to this day in Kazakhstan, will increase the yield of other varieties of apples and form a stable immunity to various diseases, ”said a 1st year doctoral student of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi KazNU Adil Kusmangazinov.

It should be recalled that more than 160 Crimean pines and Altai firs were planted earlier on the KazNU campus.
