Young specialists of the scientific and technological park of KazNU named after al-Farabi, together with scientists from the Scientific Research Institute of Combustion Problems, have developed a protective face shield ALFASHIELD.

With the outbreak of the pandemic, many tech companies have begun developing different versions of screen protectors for healthcare workers, offering their designs to organizations wishing to create their own versions. Most of the models are made using a 3D printer. Printing of one such protective screen takes on average 1.5-2 hours - a rather time-consuming process.

A team of young scientists from KazNU among students has developed its own technology for the manufacture of anti-virus protective screens, the advantage of which is the speed of the process. A 3D printer is not required to produce these screens. The technology allows to speed up the manufacturing process by 5-6 times. According to the developers, two people a day can make up to 100 protective screens. In a pandemic, when the number of infected people in the country and the world is growing rapidly, this is a very important factor.

“The transparent anti-static material of the protective shield provides the user with an excellent view. The screen is a reliable barrier that protects against the ingress of unwanted substances: liquids, splashes, dust particles, etc. Perfectly protects the face and eyes. As a result, the risk of COVID-19 coronavirus infection is reduced several times, ”said Amirkhan Temirbayev, director of the KazNU technopark.

One of the first new products was tested by the district doctor Rozgul Urkembaeva: “I have been using the protective screen made by the KazNU technopark for almost 1 year. A fairly comfortable device made of pleasant material, it can be easily adjusted to the user's size. Suitable for wearing throughout the day. I clearly see all objects and things, even sometimes I forget that there is a protective screen on my face. When disinfected, the quality does not deteriorate. In my opinion, during the pandemic, the country received a timely product and assistance. "

Technopark specialists, with the support of the university, within the framework of a social project, released the first batches of products and distributed them throughout the city among medical workers. Given the high quality, the cost of protective equipment is two times lower compared to other analogues. ALFASHIELD screens can be reused by wiping them with an antiseptic before each use.

The means of protection produced by young scientists of KazNU can be used by both medical workers and employees of banks, educational centers, public service centers, retail stores, beauty salons and flight attendants who are in close contact with clients.
