The Faculty of Medicine and Health Care of Al-Farabi KazNU actively develops scientific direction, responding to the high demands of society, which requires medical personnel and health professionals of the new formation.

In our information technology, digital age society needs medical personnel of the new formation, who possess knowledge from various fields of natural and technical sciences: molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, bio- and nanotechnologies, bioinformatics, mathematics and other branches of science. Responding to this society request, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University established the Faculty of Medicine and Health Care in December 2015.

Currently, the Faculty has been training personnel in medicine and healthcare at all levels of educational programs - Bachelor, Master and PhD. For the first time in Kazakhstan, the Master's Research Doctor Program has been launched, for which copyright has been obtained. There is a PhD program in «Medicine» and «Public Health».

Foreign professors are invited to the Faculty. Nowadays, invited experts from Russia, Canada, Germany, Sweden, South Korea and Japan work at KazNU.

The results of scientific research of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Care are published in international peer-reviewed journals. Lecturers and scientists of the Faculty initiate and successfully implement research projects together with leading foreign universities.

A big event for the Faculty was the opening of the Health and Environment Research Laboratory. The laboratory is led by Dr. Vinnikov D.V. PhD, the author of scientific articles in rating journals with h-index - 7.

Today, the Faculty has been developing rapidly. This year, the Health Research Institute was created, which is led by Dr. Davletov K.K., MD, Ph.D., (h-index - 24), which has a large number of publications in high-ranking journals indexed in the Scopus database, as well as a participant in international research projects.

Currently, work is being carried out on other scientific projects, together with international partners – Global Burden of disease project, Institute of Heath Metrics and Evaluation, Seattle, USA; NCD risk factors collaboration group, Imperial College, London, the UK and other world scientific centers and institutes.

This year on the basis of the Faculty, the medical journal «Interdisciplinary Approaches to Medicine» has been opened. The structure of the magazine complies with international requirements. The journal’s policy, requirements for articles have been worked out, work is underway to create a journal’s website in cooperation with members of the editorial board and the selection of reviewers. The composition of the editorial board of the magazine is 65% composed of foreign experts.

Masters and PhD students of the Faculty undergo a scientific internship at the M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia), Scientific and Practical Center «MedEvori» (Republic of Belarus), Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania), Severance Hospital (South Korea), Medical Park Hospital (Turkey), Aarhus University (the Kingdom of Denmark), University of Cologne (Germany), University of East Carolina (USA) and Marburg University (Germany).

The Faculty is actively working on the «Council of Young Scientists», «Journal Club», «Student Startups», «Scientific Surgical Circle», «Biomedical Student Circle», etc.

Thus, a new scientific direction for Al-Farabi KazNU – medicine and health care is successfully developing and has been already contributing to scientific and innovative activities and to the transformation of the University into a research University.
