KazNU Scientist Spoke in Malta

The first International Symposium entitled «Academic Trends in Higher Education for Tolerance» was first held in Valletta (Malta). The event, which was attended by representatives of countries from all over the world, was organized by the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace with the support of the President of Malta, George Vella.

During the two-day Symposium, more than thirty professors, leaders and representatives of state institutions, international organizations made presentations and participated in discussions on issues of tolerance and peace.

At the opening ceremony of the Symposium, the President of Malta, the Rector of the University of Malta, and the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace have delivered welcoming speeches. It was noted that we currently live in a world where hundreds of kinds of cultures, different religious beliefs and languages. Therefore, it is extremely important for humanity to establish tolerance and peace, and mutual understanding and harmony of relations should become the key to the sustainable development of civilization.

The Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies in Science and Innovation and International Relations Saltanat Jakubayeva took part in the International Symposium, who made a presentation on «Ideas and Concepts of Tolerance in Modern Kazakhstan». Speaking to representatives of different countries, she emphasized that more than 130 nationalities live in peace and harmony in Kazakhstan, and tolerance is one of the deep-rooted qualities of the Kazakh people. She also highlighted that favorable conditions were created in the country for living of all nationalities, and the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan plays an important role in the formation of interethnic relations. This experience can serve as an example for other states.

The speech aroused great interest among the audience, after the report, President of Malta George Vella and other participants of the Symposium asked several questions to Deputy Dean Saltanat Toleuovna. She, in turn, spoke in detail about the activities of the Assembly, the measures being adopted in the state in the field of interethnic and interfaith harmony, and she also showed the role of Universities in the formation of citizens of the country and the world on the example of the implementation of a joint project of KazNU and the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
