"Reading is a Stairway to Growth"

Organized by teachers-professors of the UNESCO Sustainable Development Department: Kozhakhan Aigul Karipzhankyzy, Zhumanali Erkinbekuly Darybayev, Kutzhan Askan Nurtaykyzy and third year students of the specialty "Life safety and environmental protection". There was a meeting with the winner of the international literary prize "Alash", the winner of the state prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the writer Sauketay Turusbek.
The aim of the meeting: to popularize reading the works of our famous writers, to inspire the young generation with their moral images of life, to increase young people's enthusiasm for reading books.
Sauketay Turusbek began his career with poetry. There are many stories: "Sutkeniye" ("Afterbirth"), "There was a moonlit night" ("There was a moonlit night"), "Birches, white birches" ("My birches are birches"), "Kingdom of shadows" ("Kingdom of shadows"). The Kingdom of Shadows") and novels "Aikarangysy" ("Inter-Moon"), "Zelkaiyk" ("Sailor"), "Epilogue", "Kyzylbalak kazasy" ("The Death of the Red Eagle"), "I am Crazy" ("I am Crazy"). Fruitful in the sphere of translations. More than two hundred screenplays, novels by Guy de Maupassant, Ambrose Beers, translation of "My Life" by Goldo Meyer.
Winner of the international literary prize "Alash". Literary contest of "Zhalin" magazine, winner of the "Kazakh Khanate-550" contest. In 2017 the novel "I am crazy" was recognized as the best book of the year. He was awarded the Order of Honor and the medal "For Valorous Service". Member of the Board of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan. Winner of the international literary prize "Alash" (1999). In 2022 he was awarded with the state award named after Abay for his novel "Zhelkaik".
The organizers of the meeting, 3rd year students Askarbek Anel, Kesik Didar, Mynzhasov Daulet, Kayyrtaykyzy Aykorkem, Tynymkul Aruzhan read the 580-page novel "Zelkaiyk" and asked the author questions about the novel. Other participating students and graduate students also showed an interest in the writer's work.
When it was Mr. Turusbek's turn, he expressed his sincere gratitude for the invitation to the meeting and emphasized that the students of the Department of Geography were as good, if not better than the students of the Department of Journalism. He noted that he is a graduate of KazNU. He answered questions from the participants. A special gift was given to the guest on behalf of the department. Т. Sauketai signed several of his books and presented them to the students. The meeting was very interesting and impressive.
