This year, the city of Almaty hosted an "Open Doors Day", organized by the staff of the Department of Ecology. The event was attended by students of the 4th year of the specialty Ecology of UNESCO chair in Sustainable Development" al –Farabi KazNU.

During the event, the employees of the department discussed with future specialists the urgent environmental problems of the city of Almaty and ways to solve them. The chief specialist of the test laboratory and analytical control department of the Department of Ecology for Almaty reported on the need to promote environmental culture and knowledge, familiarizing students with the goals and activities of the Department of Environmental Protection. In addition, a review of modern measuring instruments, regulatory documents in the testing laboratory was carried out. In the future, university students have a full opportunity to exchange experience in the department, conduct joint environmental events, actions.

The Department of Ecology for the city of Almaty, within its competence, carries out regulatory, implementation and control activities and participates in the implementation of the strategic functions of the central executive body, conducts state environmental expertise and issues permits for emissions into the environment. In addition, the main activity of the environmental department of the city of Almaty is the assessment and analysis of the ecological state of the city of Almaty as a whole, aimed at regulating the main environmental problems of the city.

Speaking about the ongoing work, the head of the environmental department called on young people to take part in a unified solution to the environmental problem of Kazakhstan, as an indifferent citizen of Almaty and their country. Future young professionals should pay deep attention to the protection of the natural environment, the promotion of environmental cleanliness. Young people showed great interest and shared fresh ideas. Doors open day for the purpose of exchange of experience between the Environmental Department in Almaty with students of the specialty Ecology of the Department of UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Development of al-Farabi KazNU continues annually.
