As the world is entering the era of the fourth industrial revolution, which manifests itself in profound and rapid changes, the public health remains one of the highest priorities, as demonstrated by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Currently, special attention is paid to the quality of medical services, which is directly related to the development of medical equipment and related technologies.

It is quite obvious that for the effective use and invention of modern high-tech medical equipment, specialists in related fields of physics and medicine are urgently needed, participating together with doctors in the treatment and diagnostic process, at the same time developing new methods and equipment for medical care. That is why medical physics is a very popular profession in almost all countries of the world. A research center for medical physics has been successfully operating in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University for several years, which has close ties with leading scientific institutions both in Kazakhstan and around the world.

On the initiative of this center, together with medical institutions of Kazakhstan and foreign partners, curricula and standards were drawn up and tested not only for the Medical Physics program, but also for the Nuclear Medicine program. In line with the global trend in the development of educational systems,

these programs are double diploma with the universities of Hokkaido (Japan) and MEPhI (Russia). The training is conducted by leading professors of our university, the Institute of Nuclear Physics and the Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology. Theoretical and basic laboratory trainings are carried out at the Faculty of Physics and Technology, whereas specialized courses and advanced laboratory drills are implemented at specialized medical institutions.

At the Institute of Nuclear Physics, nuclear medicine is represented by the research nuclear reactor VVR-K, which produces radiopharmaceuticals (Molybdenum-99, Iodine-131, Galiy-67) and the Cyclone-30 cyclotron, which, as part of the Radiopharmaceuticals Production Building, is used to obtain radiopharmaceuticals based on 201Tl, 18F and generators Тс-99m.

At the Institute of Oncology and Radiology, students undergo clinical practice, where they learn to interact with practicing doctors and gain skills in using medical equipment for diagnostics and therapy. The Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine has a wide range of modern expert-class diagnostic equipment, including 3 Tesla MRI, reusable CT scanners and others. In the department of dosimetry and physical and technical support of radiation therapy, students acquire skills in working with medical accelerators, master the planning of irradiation and maintenance of medical devices.

The development of large interdisciplinary areas that can have a great positive impact on the development of science-intensive technologies is one of the important missions of modern universities, which is based

on close collaboration with all interested stakeholders. This mission is successfully implemented by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in close cooperation with foreign universities on double diploma programs.
