In order to coordinate scientific research on priority areas of science and technology, addressing critical social and economic problems in the Kazakh National University. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in 1992-1997. were organized by research institutes and centers.

For practical implementation of scientific and technological achievements of the university scientists, the introduction of advanced developments created Science and Technology Park.

In the frames of these units are organically connected to the scientific and teaching activities of the faculty, there is close collaboration between the departments and laboratories, research tasks are successfully solved at the intersection of science. They serve as a basis for the scientific work of students and young scientists.

On the basis of the 8 faculties of Humanities has 4 institutes and more than 40 centres of Humanities and social studies, accumulating research on specialized topics.
