SRI of Experimental and theoretical physics

Institute history:

The first director of the first research institute at a university in the Republic of Kazakhstan was academician of NAS RK, Doctor of physical-mathematical sciences, Professor T.A. Kozhamkulov, who at that time was the dean of department of physics and whose initiative promoted organization of such an institute. Based on the “Soviet science” and principles of its organization at that time, i.e. highly qualified scientific potential supported by prestige of science at state level, the IETP managed to preserve and develop scientific schools, which had been formed at the department of physics for years, to reorientate in the new conditions, survive in the transition period, and not only to preserve its structure and scientific staff but also to make qualitative reorganizations by changing the principles of organization and financing according to new requirements.

In 1993 the executive director of the institute was academician of NAS RK, Prof. Dr. F.B. Baimbetov, from 1993 to 1995 the Institute was headed by Prof. Dr. A.S. Drobyshev, from February 1996 to April 2000 the director of the Institute was Prof. Dr. I.L. Tazhibayeva. From April 2000 to June 2000 the responsibilities of the director were executed by docent B.M. Ibrayev and from June 2000toNovember 2006 – Prof. Dr., T.S. Ramazanov.Since November 2006 the Institute has been headed by Prof. O.A. Lavrishev.
