History of university from 2008 to 2010

Nowadays, Kazakhstan needs skilled personnel who are competitive in the global labor market. Therefore, a new essential tasks were given by the Head of State to the national universities and, firstly, to Kazakh National University as a leading university. The transition to the international quality of personnel training, a meaningful integration into the world educational space and the acknowledgment of Kazakhstani diplomas, rooting out corruption, an honorable entry into the international university rankings are there among them.

In order to achieve such a high goals, last year in May the University Development Strategy for 2009-2011 offered by Rector was adopted by an Academic Council. It is based on three "pillars" - of radical modernization of all levels of management, the completion of a complete transition to international standards of specialists training and improving the scientific and innovative infrastructure with efficient connections to its scientific and national innovation system of the country. And the most important thing is that the Strategy is based on a systemic vision of all sides of the university, their interaction not only among themselves but also with the "external environment" - state, society, labor market, science and innovation system of Kazakhstan.

This strategy is successfully implemented. The transition from a formal declaration to full practical implementation of the internationally accepted practice of credit system of learning was made, based on a powerful INTRANET computer communication system. Its main advantage is not only in the higher-level automation management of studying. It literally "wakes up" the students' initiative and their direct interest in the outcome of learning. Today, every student becomes a true creator of himself as a future specialist, he forms the variable part of training program, for which he needs enough complete vision of future career and employer's requirements.

Another important aspect of this technology is that it provides daily and well-protected control over the actions of every faculty member and student. So, the influence of the exam on the final grade is significantly reduced, and the main emphasis is on (around 60%) the current performance, which puts into practice the saying "no pains, no gains". And this is simply impossible to get a high score for a student, if he does not put an effort, no matter what a significant benefits to offer to examiners. In conjunction with the openness of the system for remote access of the university management and even students' parents, so it creates a radically new level of protection against corruption.

The first graduation of Doctors of Philosophy - PhD was carried out, thereby KazNU is the first one which has mastered the three-step personnel training in the CIS countries according to international standards. In November 2008, the university has successfully underwent an accreditation process by the «Bureau Veritas certification» French certification body. We can proudly proclaim the fact that the KazNU took the first place in the general ranking of Kazakh universities once again.

The system for the development of KazNU as a research university was proposed based on an analysis of global trends of development of the world of educational sphere, and even in the most developed countries there are (USA, EEC countries, Japan, and others) not more than 5-6% in the world - it's Stanford Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, and others. Unlike other universities, they are characterized by an extremely intensive development of science, and firstly, fundamental research and a living link with educational process.
