The start of the application process for participation in the four-week training course titled “Introduction to Weapons of Mass Destruction Nonproliferation”

The Department of International Relations of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (USA) and Center about the UN at the Al-Farabi KazNU announce the start of the application process for participation in the four-week training course titled “Introduction to Weapons of Mass Destruction Nonproliferation”. The course is intended for Master’s students, PhD students and young scholars specializing in International Relations, International Law, Political Science and Nuclear Physics. If interested, Master’s students, PhD students and young researchers specializing in other fields may also participate in the training.

In the course of the training, participants will become familiar with historical, international legal, political and technical aspects of nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons) and their means of delivery, including international nonproliferation and export control regimes. The course will also highlight current threats and challenges in the field of nonproliferation both in the global and regional contexts, including issues of nuclear security, Iranian and North Korean nuclear programs, WMD terrorism.

The application deadline is April 20, 2013. Given the limited number of seats, the organizers reserve the right to select course participants.

The course will start on April 22, 2013 at the Department of International Relations in the premises of the Center about the UN at the Al-Farabi KazNU. Completed applications for participation and CVs should be sent to the following addresses: Albina.Salimbaeva@kaznu.kz and daben@miis.edu.

Upon successful completion of the entire course, participants will receive INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED CERTIFICATES.
