Practice is one of the most important components in a student's studies. Thanks to her, we gain knowledge and experience not only theoretically, but also see live how professionals work. We adopt their skills.

Practice at the Department of Journalism began on May 29. From June 1 to June 7, I passed it in the city of Almaty at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. This was my second visit to this city. When I arrived there last year for the seminar of the International Foundation for the Protection of Freedom "Adil Soz", I decided that in the near future I would return here and stay longer, and this moment has come.

I was assigned to the university press service as a photojournalist. The first day was more of an introductory one – they gave me a tour of the TV studio, showed me how and where they work on the newspaper "Qazaq universiteti". I myself took part in writing articles for the anniversary edition of the newspaper. I got acquainted with the employees of the press service, real professionals in their field.

I came to practice with my camera, but I was allowed to take their equipment, which I was pleasantly surprised at, since it is not cheap. My first task was to make a summer study of the university. It took several hours, because the campus area is really large. I really liked the fact that the territory of the university is surrounded by greenery, with it the pictures turned out to be even more colorful.

The next day we went to the opening of a memorial plaque in honor of the Honored Scientist of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Economics, Professor, academician of NAS Kopzhasar Naribayev, where he lived. It was my first official trip as a photojournalist. It is from such practices that the student gets valuable experience for himself. And I'm no exception. I tried to repeat the manner of shooting professionals and bring something of my own to distinguish myself.

After that, we went back to the university for the solemn meeting "Writer, activist, politician" dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the statesman and public figure, academician of the National Academy of Sciences, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, writer-journalist Ualikhan Kalizhan.

There was more space for creativity, and I already felt more liberated. In addition, I had the experience of filming such events organized at our university. I already paid little attention to the presence of other photographers and tried to do my job based on the knowledge I acquired during 3 years of training. During the whole time that the meeting lasted, I took more than 100 photos, from which we selected the best, then I had to edit them. After careful work on them, I showed the result to the director, who rated them positively. This gave me an incentive to continue working.

When there were no events, I was engaged in photo processing, took pictures of the city and received valuable comments. It was unacceptable to sit idle, I came here to improve my skills.

These photos were taken from the park "Koktobe". I am very glad that I visited this place, because there was a beautiful view of the city from here.
My last task was to go to the Career Day job fair within the framework of the City Career Center project organized by the Youth Policy Department of Almaty. It was a new experience for me. The fair was held on the Arbat with a large number of people. The shots turned out to be very different and interesting. I was shown what and how to shoot, in what settings. It was desirable to take the general plan of the exhibition. Most of the photos I took were approved by the editorial board of the KazNU University website and published in the article "KazNU took part in the job fair".

Unfortunately, the time in Almaty flew by quickly, I would like to stay there longer. But, nevertheless, in 5 days of practice, I managed to get a lot of new instructions that will certainly help me in my future work. I began to process photos better in other programs. I learned how to work with more professional equipment for filming, figured out the settings of the camera received during practice. I think if a student has the opportunity to go to practice in another city, then he should take advantage of it. In addition to new sensations and experiences, this raises his qualifications.

Special thanks to my curator M.T.Mukasheva for the opportunity to travel to Almaty, as well as to the press service for a warm welcome and help in studying!
