The Academic Council was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, where the results of the indicative plan and ratings of the teaching staff of departments and faculties for the 2021-2022 academic year were considered.

The presentation was made by Gulsharat Mingazheva, the Director of the Center for Strategic Development. KazNU has recently risen 25 places up in the WORLD QS ranking and entered the top 150 best universities in the world. According to the results of the indicative plan of the last academic year the teaching staff showed impressive results, which also affected the overall performance in the QS rating.

The university scored high points on the following indicators: academic reputation, the ratio of professors and students, reputation among employers, citation index per teacher, the share of foreign visiting professors and students, employment results, international research network. According to the speaker, KazNU has great potential for further improvement of these indicators. However, despite the positive overall external results, Gulsharat Minajeva also identified internal weaknesses that were identified during the analysis of the implementation of indicative indicators among faculties. The speaker noted the direction of the indicative plan for the 2021-2022 academic year, which provides for 34 main indicators and 24 sub-indicators for teaching staff. When analyzing the distribution of rating points among teaching staff, the highest indicator was above 1000 points for only one teacher. As a result, 3082 rating questionnaires were studied and the average score for the university was – 8. This year, such faculties as: Physics and Technology, Chemistry and Chemical Technology, Biology and Biotechnology, IT, History, etc. distinguished themselves with high scores.

To increase the level of the indicative indicator, each department and faculty should intensify work on scientometric indicators, increase the number of articles in highly rated journals and the citation of scientific articles, promote educational programs in the subject ratings of NCE Atameken, QS by subject & THE by subject, as well as strengthen the activities of the working group to increase the level of global competitiveness.

Also at the academic council, Deputy Director of the IT Infrastructure Development Department Galymzhan Sariyev made a report, shared certain aspects about the preparation of the university's IT infrastructure for the new academic year and told about further plans concerning the meeting of international quality standards.

In conclusion, the issues of the establishment of the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies, the renaming of the Research Institute of Archeology and Steppe Civilization (in the Research Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology) and the recommendations of the university scientists for the assignment of academic titles were considered.
