An international beach volleyball tournament among amateur women's and men's teams has started at the stadium of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The sporting event is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the outstanding poet and public figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Suleimenov.

The organizers were KazNU named after al-Farabi, EC "Burevestnik-Almaty" with the support of the Akimat and the volleyball federation of Almaty. More than 63 amateur men's, women's and mixed teams in age categories up to 60 years old from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and from different regions of the country gathered on the sports ground.

Opening the ceremony, the Chairman of the Board-Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev congratulated the outstanding poet and unique personality on his anniversary.

Noting his outstanding works, as well as great work and contribution as a statesman and public figure to the development of science and culture of the country, the rector emphasized that the personality of the poet and his work is a vivid example for all Kazakhstanis.

It should be noted that the "Research Linguistic Center of Olzhas Suleimenov" functions in KazNU, where many scientific projects are carried out. O. Suleimenov is a graduate of the Faculty of Geography of KazNU and takes an active part in the activities of the alma mater.

During the opening ceremony, Olzhas Suleimenov congratulated the athletes-participants and with great inspiration read an excerpt from the poem "Earth, bow to man!", Dedicated to the first manned flight into space. He thanked the organizers of the event and all the participants for the kind words and wished the participants in the sports competitions successful starts, bright victories and strong team spirit.

It should be noted that Olzhas Omarovich has been involved in sports since childhood and has the first category in volleyball, gymnastics, boxing and wrestling. His passion for volleyball is closely related to the sports club "Burevestnik.

In a solemn atmosphere, Olzhas Suleimenov presented the Cup of the champion of Kazakhstan in volleyball of the national super league to the senior team "Burevestnik". In turn, the rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev handed over the Champions Cup in the Higher Volleyball League of Kazakhstan to the youth team "Burevestnik".

The competition will be held according to the official beach volleyball rules approved by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVD) from May 7 to 10. Taking into account the quarantine measures, the tournament is held without spectators in the open air. The final games will take place on May 9th. The winners will be awarded with medals, certificates and cash prizes. Also, a separate monetary prize was established by the rector of KazNU. al-Farabi Zh. Tuimebayeva, intended for two teams that took first places.

At the end of the solemn part in the Park - Elbasy, on the campus of Al-Farabi KazNU, the participants and guests of the event planted trees. One of them was named "Olzhas Suleimenov's tree".
