In the 9^th of February for the 80^th anniversary of M.Makatayev the “Tarzhiman” club arranged a poetric translation meeting called “Mukagali – the great poet” in the Philological Department, in the chair of Literary Works and Theory of Artistic Translation. The memorial meeting was organized by the second year students of Translation Affairs.

During the meeting which was led by F.Kalzhanova and A.Krebayeva there mentioned M.Makatayev’s 45 year life, I.Smagulova, A.Ayazbayeva, A.Sultangalieva, A.Zhursin, A.Almatova, and A.Baikadamova read his verses. The pictures of poet’s native land “Shalkoden”, “his grey coat”, “brown portfolio”, “his writing machine” were showed by presentation. I.Smagulova and J.Muzbayeva sang songs “Saryzhailau” and “Zhanbyrda”, which were written by M.Makatayev.

The most interesting part of the meeting was when there mentioned M.Makatayev’s translation works. A.Ayazbayeva read the Shakespeare’s sonnet in original and A.Orazova read its translation. Future translators tried to make Mukagali speak in English. D.Embergenov translated his verses “20” (Twenty Years) and “Sheshe, sen bakyttysyn” (Mother, you are happy) into English. H.Yskakova and G.Turgynbekov translated M.Makatayev’s verse “Mahabbat dastany” into English, which was then translated into Chinese by A.Amantai. This is the first time when M.Makatayev was translated into English and Chinese languages.

Followers of this great poet Ersin, Almas and Erganat read verses of him, Bauyrzhan and Asel read their dedications for M.Makatayev.

In the end of the meeting the manager of the club Musaly Laila Jumataikyzy told about the mysterious connection between M.Makatayev and the nature showing the white birch through the window and thanked all students.
