Judo: the world champion again reminded of himself

Eldos Smetov, a student of KazNU named after al-Farabi, won the tournament "Grand Slam", which was held in Yekaterinburg (Russia). The world champion of 2015 and the silver prize-winner of the Olympic Games-2016 after the Games in Rio de Janeiro went a few into the shadows and in the world ranking of judoists performing at the lightest weight (up to 60 kg), at the beginning of this year did not even enter the "top -thirty". But now he reminded himself again.

Eldos Smetov, who was in the third group, successfully held both his fights - with Tajik Merzod Sufiev and Brazilian of Japanese origin Eric Takabatake. In the semifinals, Eldos defeated the Frenchman Walid Hyar, and in the duel for "gold" he was just two and a half minutes to defeat the Russian Islam of Yashuyev.

This was the first and only medal of the national team of Kazakhstan in Yekaterinburg. And there went 12 of our judoists - 5 men and 7 women. Zhansai Smagulov (up to 73 kg) - the same student of KazNU, lost in the fight for "bronze", Albina Amangeldiyeva (78 kg) took the 7th place.

Congratulations on the long-awaited victory!
