Discussion with students of the specialty "Geoinformatics" of the 3nd course - «SDG 6 - Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all»

The problem of water resources is a problem not only in the devastated areas, at the moment there is a shortage of water in regions where 40 years ago no one could have guessed the likelihood of this problem. Together with the students, a discussion was held on the path of SDG -6 and the possibility of its implementation, as well as the general situation in the world to promote this goal.

Clean and affordable water is a vital component of our lives. At the moment, more than 40% of the world's population faces a lack of water resources. 673 million people are still forced to use open spaces for sanitary needs. Millions of people, especially children, continue to die from diseases associated with poor quality of water supply, lack of sanitation and insufficient hygiene.

Problems related to access to clean water and management of water resources affect the economic and social well-being of the population, including problems of hunger, poverty and limited access to education. Every year the situation worsens due to population growth and inefficient use of fresh water. Without improved infrastructure and management of these resources, millions of people will continue to die, and biodiversity with ecosystems will deteriorate even more.

Achieving sustainable access to clean water and sanitation requires cooperation at all levels, from the introduction of more efficient water use technologies and the provision of adequate infrastructure at the local level to the adoption of international measures. Raising awareness of water use issues is of particular importance. The efficiency of water resources management can be increased through the development of innovative technologies in the field of water extraction and treatment, as well as by increasing the level of reuse of water and improving the quality of its purification, not only for drinking, but also for technical and agricultural needs. At the same time, it is important that new technologies are accessible and economically acceptable to all segments of the population.
