The purpose of EPP doctoral studies

Training of personnel of scientific and educational orientation in the field of natural sciences, who are ready to make decisions based on the obtained scientific knowledge about spatial geosystems of various territorial ranks in accordance with the basic laws and methods of natural sciences, who are able to build educational strategies using innovative methodology aimed at solving problems of modeling and forecasting geosystems, to build their own program of further training and research activities.

Learning outcomes

Expected learning outcomes:

1. Demonstrate a systematic understanding of research methods, information support for research in the field of geoinformation cartography and mapping technology, develop scientific cartographic ideas and projects based on knowledge of information sources and an understanding of modern scientific paradigms in the field of cartography for integration into the intersectoral scientific space

2. Create scientific and applied projects and conduct scientific and technical expertise of new mapping methods based on the knowledge of developing technical tasks in the field of cartography in accordance with the new domestic regulatory and technical documentation for the formation of technical documentation and the development of competitive domestic cartographic production

3. To develop analytical approaches to the main world and domestic problems, methodologies and technologies of modern mapping using navigation systems for the development of domestic cartographic science and production to improve the effectiveness of national cartography

4. To promote the development of domestic cartography in connection with the globalization of scientific research and geoinformation systems based on the solution of scientific and industrial tasks to increase the role and importance of national cartographic projects and programs

5. Evaluate the preferred properties of innovative information sources, structure and create a common base for any problems and areas of cartographic modeling based on the knowledge system of GIS technologies for their use in scientific and industrial processes

6. Integrate holistic knowledge that reflects the current level of automated systems for collecting and processing remote sensing data, develop monitoring programs for environmental control based on topographic and geodetic, cartographic materials, remote sensing and GIS technologies to improve the effectiveness of environmental programs and strengthen the systematic approach in research and production

7. Demonstrate a systematic understanding in the field of studying and solving problems of innovative project mapping and develop presentations strategies for analyzing and argumenting systems of cartographic results and indicators based on remote survey materials and GIS technologies to ensure the competitiveness of domestic cartographic production

8. Develop comprehensive research programs based on the knowledge system and methods of mapping and information technology to solve scientific and applied problems at the local, regional and national levels in new areas of social and public spheres

9. Evaluate the development of domestic cartographic science in the light of the globalization of scientific research on the basis of information on the state and development of the theory and methodology of domestic and world cartography for the development of scientific and educational plans for specialized activities in higher education

10. Generate new ideas and directions for the introduction and use of modern innovations in cartographic research in intersectoral areas based on the knowledge and application of the methodological and technological apparatus of spatial visualization to deepen interdisciplinary connections and integrate cartography into the intersectoral sphere of scientific production

11. Identify and evaluate approaches to solving scientific and production problems based on the use of interdisciplinary knowledge in the process of studying the problems of innovative mapping for the implementation of complex scientific and production programs and projects at the national and international level and to deepen scientific integration

12. Interact with colleagues, the wider scientific cartographic community, and society as a whole, and contribute – in scientific and professional contexts - to technological, social, and cultural progress

Academic activities for the implementation of the educational program:

- within the framework of existing regulatory documents and methodological recommendations in the field of higher education in the field of cartographic and geographical sciences;

- as a result of the implementation of regulatory documents regulating the educational and methodological process at the university;

- generalization and dissemination of new normative legal acts concerning methodological work;

- current and long-term planning of the educational and methodological work of the university; coordination of the educational and methodological complex (UMKD) of the discipline of the department for compliance with normative legal acts, working curricula and educational programs;

- monitoring the provision of the educational process with teaching materials, documenting the results;

- development of teaching materials; development and implementation of the working curriculum

To implement the OP «8D05208 - Geoinformation cartography2 at the Faculty and Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics there is an  

Educational and Laboratory Cartographic Center (ULCC), which includes:

- laboratory of geoinformation mapping;

- Remote sensing laboratory;

- Geodesy and Cartography Laboratory;

- Сenter for Geoinformatics and young scientists;

- Сenter for receiving and archiving operational meteorological information;

-   Geocamera. 

   The uniqueness of the OP "8D05208 - Geoinformation cartography" in the direction of doctoral studies lies in the focus of training highly qualified personnel in the field of cartography, geoinformatics, focused on research, practical activities to integrate the international cartographic sphere to study the problems of natural resource potential and their applied aspects for the purposes of rational nature management of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

   The Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics for academic mobility of doctoral students has cooperation agreements with the University of Salzburg, the Center for Geoinformatics of Dortmund Technical University (Dortmund, Germany), the University of Amsterdam (Amsterdam, the Netherlands), Michigan Technological University (USA), Western Hungarian University, MIIGAiK (Moscow, Russia), Czech Research Institute (Geodetic, Topographic and Cartographic), Koszalin Technological University (Koszalin, Republic of Poland), University of Abuda (Hungary).

   International relations are planned to be carried out in the form of participation in conferences, exchange of experience in scientific and pedagogical activities with international colleagues, as well as professional development of staff of the department in those Universities with which international cooperation agreements have been concluded.
