purpose

Training of highly qualified specialists in the field of physics of the atomic nucleus and elementary particles, possessing the skills necessary for the practical implementation of educational and scientific programs in nuclear physics, capable of performing a critical analysis of the state of modern scientific research in their field, as well as striving for self-learning and self-development throughout their lives who periodically improve their qualifications and skills in the field of specialization and related disciplines; possessing methods of ensuring nuclear and radiation safety, protection and control of nuclear materials, culture of handling nuclear materials and technologies; able to analyze scientific and technical information; possessing organizational skills, as well as able to work in a team.

Learning outcomes

ON1 Ability to carry out measurements with radiometric and spectrometric devices, while showing skills in working with technical documentation and original scientific literature to solve standard technical and technological problems in the field of nuclear physics; 

ON2 Use basic theoretical knowledge of fundamental sections of general and theoretical physics to solve professional problems in the field of nuclear physics;

ON3 The ability to formulate and explain the basic sanitary and epidemiological standards for radiation safety for both personnel and the public. Experimentally determine the alpha, beta and gamma background using specialized devices both indoors and in an open atmosphere;

 

ON4 Ability to classify and define nuclear physics processes and their corresponding theoretical models, to describe fundamental and technological processes in nuclear power and applied nuclear technologies;

ON5 Ability to install, commission, configure, adjust, test and commission standard equipment and software in the field of nuclear physics and nuclear technologies, as well as the ability to monitor compliance with technological discipline and maintain technological equipment of the corresponding specificity;

ON6 Plan dosimetry support according to the accepted methods of technological procedures and ensure compliance with radiation and environmental safety;

 

ON7 Use information and communication technologies in professional activities; possess the skills of processing the results of scientific research and their analysis using computer programs;

 

ON8 Observe ethical principles in all professional interactions with colleagues and society as a whole, regardless of ethnicity, culture, gender, economic status. Willingness to communicate verbally and in writing in a foreign language;

ON9 Perform calculations of nuclear reactions and nuclear decays for fundamental processes in space physics, astrophysics, radioecology, nuclear diagnostics and therapy, radiation genetics and other related fields;

ON10 Calculate the radiation protection of the working rooms of the "hot" laboratory and research centers with a cyclotron, for PET studies, rooms with gamma cameras, SPECT and PET scanners, including SPECT / CT and PET / CT scanners;

ON11 Demonstrate the ability for interdisciplinary practical use of skills acquired during training (laws of atomic and nuclear physics, nuclear chemistry, radiation biophysics and ecology);

ON12 Create mathematical models of nuclear-physical phenomena and processes based on standard computer-aided design and research packages.

Academic activities

The academic activities of the EP are carried out:

- within the framework of existing regulatory documents and guidelines in the field of higher education in the field of physical sciences,

- as a result of the implementation of regulations governing the educational and methodological process at the university;

- generalization and dissemination of new normative legal acts concerning methodological work;

- current and long-term planning of educational and methodological work of the university; coordination of the educational and methodological complex of the discipline (UMKD) of the department for compliance with regulatory legal acts, the working curriculum and the educational program;

- monitoring the provision of the educational process with educational and methodological materials, documenting the results;

- development of teaching materials; development and implementation of a working curriculum

 Students are involved in scientific and technical problems in the field of radio engineering, nuclear electronics, astrophysics and nuclear medicine, as well as in the search for optimal methods for solving these problems. The most successful works are published in foreign rating journals, the rest of the works in local journals recommended by the Science Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
