Upon completion of this program, it is expected that doctoral students

will be able to:

ON1 - to develop working curricula, Educational and methodical complex of disciplines in supervised disciplines and other educational and methodical materials, to supervise theses, research work of students and undergraduates, write reviews on the final qualifying work;

- improve practical experience, professional qualifications, pedagogical skills;

- to teach economic disciplines on the basis of a student-centered approach, effectively using information, communication and interactive technologies in order to establish a new culture of pedagogical thinking.

ON2 - identify and formulate relevant scientific problems, develop a program of research and development;

-   to search, collect, process, analyze and systematize information on the research topic;

- acquire practical research skills;

- conduct economic expertise of scientific, scientific and technical projects with the provision of a reasoned expert opinion;

- substantiate and express their own ideas, the main provisions of the research topic in publications in domestic and foreign publications and reports at international conferences and seminars.

ON3 - to interpret general scientific and special methods in the study of phenomena and laws of the economic sphere;

- to carry out research of the phenomena, regularities of economy as a whole, financial and economic activity of the enterprises, firms, research organizations, using General scientific and special methods;

- to apply statistical and econometric methods of analysis for the development and preparation required in professional activities policies, development plans, improvement of management, explanation of the relationship of economic phenomena.

ON8 - explain the formulation and formulation of approaches to solving the problem of risk assessment in the management of business structures;

- to substantiate the methodology of business processes development in industry, enterprises, financial institutions, taking into account financial, investment, currency and other risks;

ON10 - to substantiate the factors of economic growth and the role of the state in its provision;

- classify the main stages, types and models of economic growth;

- analyze and evaluate the modernization of specific countries and regions;

- to analyze the features and problems of Kazakhstan's economy (industry, agriculture, financial sector, etc.) and to justify the prospects of economic growth in Kazakhstan, increasing their export potential, predicting the situation of the world market.

ON11 - to demonstrate knowledge of the history, features and forecasts of researchers to prove their competence in a specialized field of Economics;

Academic activities

Academic activities under the educational program are regulated by the Academic Policy of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and implemented within the framework of existing regulatory documents and methodological recommendations in the field of higher education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The implementation of the EP "8D04102 - Economics" is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the state mandatory standard of postgraduate education, the rules for organizing the educational process on credit technology of training, qualification requirements for licensing educational activities.

Within the framework of the educational program 8D04102- "Economics", the use of credit technology is provided, which makes it possible to successfully implement the principles of the Bologna process. The educational program of the doctoral program is developed according to a modular system, using the ECTS credit system in order to focus on the competencies of graduates as the final result of educational activities.

The emphasis of the program is on basic scientific and pedagogical training aimed at the formation of universal and professional competencies of graduates. The program consists of a mandatory component and an optional component, assumes fundamental educational, methodological and research training. The educational program 8D04102 - Economics is carried out jointly with the Institute of Economics of the KN of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In the process of developing a modular structuring of the educational program, the content of the program itself, the Catalog of disciplines and educational and methodological complex of the discipline is updated taking into account the requirements of the labor market and employers, as well as modern trends in economic development.

Educational and methodological documentation within the framework of the implementation of EP 8D04102 – Economics are undergoing internal and external expertise. Systematic monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of the quality assurance policy is carried out with the participation of students, staff and other stakeholders on the basis of systematic collection, analysis and management of information in order to improve the content of the EP by online questionnaires.

The implementation of the EP "8D04102 - Economy" is provided with free access to international information networks, electronic databases, library collections, computer technologies, educational and methodological and scientific literature. EP "8D04102 - Economics" is provided with authorized access to scientific electronic databases provided in open access - through the university's website (www.kaznu.kz), reference and search databases "Thomson Reuters", Scopus, Elsevier, Springer.

The educational program "8D04102 - Economics" is aimed at training highly qualified, competitive in the domestic and international labor market specialists who meet the modern demands of science, education, management and production; with comprehensive knowledge in the field of economics and related disciplines; capable of independently creatively planning and carrying out original fundamental and applied research, synthesizing and integrating innovative knowledge to solve scientific and industrial problems in the economy and related fields, contributing to scientific and technological progress, socio-economic and cultural development of society.

 

Scientific activity

The training program is based on a set of disciplines and research work of a doctoral student. Doctoral students are given the opportunity to attend additional courses within the framework of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which allow them to expand the scientific and methodological training of doctoral students. The Center for Economic Research holds special scientific and methodological seminars for doctoral students with individual speeches and presentations of doctoral students on their dissertations, which allow improving the quality and consistency of their research. The scientific and methodological seminars will be attended by leading professors of the Faculty of Economics, as well as invited experts from leading government and analytical organizations, research institutes, and business structures. A number of disciplines of the program are taught in English, including by invited foreign professors from leading universities of the world.

The teaching staff of the EP is represented by highly qualified specialists in the field of macroeconomic analysis, economic research methodologies, sustainable economic development, green economy, risk assessment, statistical and econometric analysis. The high publication activity of teaching staff in highly rated publications included in the leading information bases of the world testifies to the scientific and theoretical training of teaching staff. The high H-index of the PPP according to the Web of science and Scopus database is 5, the number of citations is more than 80. Teachers participate in the implementation of republican programs and research projects funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 90% of the teaching staff involved in the implementation of EP 8D04102- "Economics" are managers of scientific projects, or performers of these studies.

To date, the teaching staff of the department is implementing the following research projects:

1) a project within the framework of grant financing of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Creative industries: methodological aspects of classification and quantitative measurements in the Republic of Kazakhstan" (2020-2023). 2) a project within the framework of grant financing of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan "The independence of the central bank and the achievement of the inflation target" (2021-2022). Scientific adviser: Doctor of Economics, Professor Mukhamediyev B.M.

3) a project within the framework of grant financing of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Private capital market in Kazakhstan, prospects for its development" (2021-2022). Scientific adviser: PhD, Art. teacher Rakhmatullayeva D.Zh.

 

International activity

The educational program provides a high level of general cultural and professional competencies of doctoral students, their competitiveness in the labor market, provides them with the opportunity to study at leading foreign universities under the academic mobility program.

Foreign professors are actively involved in the educational process of implementing the EP "8D04102 – Economics".

The Department of Economics is constantly actively working to expand the geography of attracting foreign scientific consultants for doctoral dissertations and academic mobility of students

 

Quality assurance (Accreditation, rating, work with employers)

The educational program of the doctoral program "8D04102 - Economics" is accredited by the Kazakhstan Society of Engineering Education (KAZSEE) until 2026. Until 2020 , it was accredited by the international agency FIBAA

According to the results of 2021, the educational program "8D04102 - Economy" ranks 4th in the NAAR rating.

The Department of Economics has a wide geography of practice bases in the context of cities and regions of Kazakhstan, as well as abroad for foreign students. These are mainly institutions and organizations of the state and quasi-public sectors (district departments of economics and finance, state revenue departments, business departments, treasury departments, etc.), small and large enterprises and private sector firms, commercial banks, joint ventures and branches of foreign companies on the territory of the republic. The main bases of practices in the implementation of the EP "8D04102 - Economics": the Department of Economics of the HSE KazNU named after al-Farabi; the Research Institute "Gylym Ordasy", the Research Center "SANJ", the Autonomous Cluster Fund "Park of Innovative Technologies", the Scientific and Technological Park of KazNU named after al-Farabi.

To date, work is underway to conclude a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Higher School of Economics and Business and the Department of Digitalization of the city of Almaty. The memorandum will allow doctoral students to undergo internships and professional practices on the basis of this institution and promote the employment of future graduates.
