Seminar "Producing podcast and journalism during a Global Pandemic"

On September 24, 2021, the Global Center for Risk Journalism (GRJH) held an online seminar with the students of the UNESCO Chairs, MJ and MO of KazNU named after al-Farabi. The speakers were BBC reporters, a CNN producer and a Pulitzer Prize Winner. They spoke on a variety of topics, reflecting on the global model of journalism to professional content creation, from journalistic ethics in times of crisis to visual storytelling in times of crisis.

Jordan Gass-Poor, CNN's podcast production expert, spoke about the mentoring program for the global journalism model in times of crisis. Craig Templeton, creator of audio content for BBC Radio, audio projects for The Guardian, and The Economist titled his speech “Rain or Crisis: How to Create Podcasts at Home from A to Z”. Pulitzer Prize Winner, visual storyteller, photojournalist and digital artist Aryana Noruzi prepared an interesting talk on the topic: "Covid-19 close-up - visual storytelling in times of Crisis". Many students' questions were raised by BBC TV journalist Joe Healy's speech "Trauma Interview - The Need for Responsiveness in Crises". Joe Healy is also a trauma coach for journalists, author of “Trauma Reporting”, “Journalist's Guide to Covering Sensitive Stories”.

The Global Center for Risk Journalism, uniting researchers is a partner of the UNESCO Chair, IJ and the MR of the Faculty of Journalism of KazNU named after al-Farabi, department professor Galiya Ibrayeva is a researcher at the Global Risk Journalism Hub (GRJH), and also brings together researchers, educators and practitioners from around the world to research news reporting as a member of the scientific community, therefore, international journalists willingly provided their contacts to continue cooperation with students. Now young journalists have the opportunity to communicate professionally with the "sharks of the pen and microphone" of the world media.
