KazNU named after Al-Farabi is considered to the recognized leader among universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan to train highly-qualified scientific personnel - Philosophy doctors (PhD). First experimental PhD courses were developed at the university in 2005 together with scientists from the world leading universities. Now the university is training for the 65 specialties of research and teaching areas.

During work on the dissertation research PhD students have compulsory research probation at the international scientific leaders of the top-scientific and educational centers in Austria, UK, USA, France, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Israel, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Norway , China and Russia and other countries. Training of PhD students is also carried out on educational programs double-diploma education (University of Nancy INPL, Valencia Polytechnic University, Hokkaido University).

The course is conducting at Kazakh, Russian and English languages​​, including the invited foreign professors from leading foreign universities.

Admission to the PhD degree of KazNU named Al-Farabi is implemented (made) according to the Model Regulations on admission to educational organizations that implement professional training programs of postgraduate education, approved by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated January 19, 2012 № 109.
