A scientific seminar was held on the theme "Persian manuscripts of the library Dar al-funun Istanbul"

On March 1, 2023, the Department of the Middle East and South Asia held a webinar with the chief specialist of the Dar al-Funun Library, Muhammad Razzaki, on the topic of Persian manuscripts in the Dar al-Funun Library Istanbul, organized by the Iranian Studies section. The guest of the webinar, historian, specialist for manuscripts Muhammad Razzaqi, has been working for the last few years in the collection of rare books and manuscripts of the Dar al-Funun library of Istanbul University. In today's webinar, he spoke in detail about the Persian language manuscripts stored in the Dar al-Funun library and explained that these manuscripts have not yet been fully studied. The Dar al-Fun Library was once the highest military educational institution, and the manuscripts and rare books come from private collections of people who served at the court of the Ottoman sultans. Previously, a list of manuscripts from this fund was prepared and a bibliographic index was compiled. However, it is well known that a bibliographic index cannot replace a catalogue. Therefore, today the guest of the webinar, Muhammad Razzaki, is compiling a catalog of manuscripts in Persian in the Dar al-Funun library. This fund contains 1,600 Persian manuscripts, as well as about 35,000 rare (lithographed) books. These books are in Arabic, Persian and Ottoman Turkish. Separate catalogs of Arabic, Persian and Turkish rare books have not yet been created. Due to the large volume, according to the webinar guest, this will be a long-term project to catalog Persian manuscripts and a separate catalog of Persian books among 35,000 rare books. At the end of the webinar, Muhammad Razzaki answered questions from the participants and a lively discussion took place among colleagues. The webinar courtesy of Muhammad Razzaki on Persian Manuscripts was full of valuable information and useful for manuscript researchers.
