Naguib Makhfouz - the first laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature

On December 2, 2021, 4th year students of "Foreign Philology" Department under the guidance of F.Z. Mamedova, Candidate of Philology sciences, Head Teacher of the DEPARTMENT OF MIDDLE EASTERN AND SOUTH ASIAN STUDIES, held a round table in the framework of the celebration of the 30th Independence anniversary of Kazakhstan, dedicated to the first Arabic-speaking Nobel Prize winner, Egyptian prose writer Abd al-Aziz Naguib Mahfouz. Naguib Makhfouz - the first laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature and the author of over forty novels, many stories, plays and scripts. It should be mentioned that it is The Cairo Trilogy that has made Mahfuz the most famous prose writer in the Arab world.

Within the framework of the event, the exhibition of Naguib Makhfouz's books was organized, dedicated to the life and work of the outstanding Egyptian writer.

Using this great opportunity, the head of the round table F.Z. Mammadova told the participants and guests of the event about the importance of Naguib Makhfouz for Egypt and Arab culture in general, noting his excellent skill in the art of words.

During the event, students presented reports that aroused keen interest of the audience, since each report was accompanied by a multimedia presentation. The reports were devoted to the life and work of the great writer.

Analyzing the work of Makhfouz, students payed attention to the fact that the writer's “novelistic” thinking always stands out in the construction of his stories. Indeed, Makhfouz tends to raise large-scale socio-political and philosophical problems, to think not on the eventual, but on the existential level.

The event was an excellent opportunity for all admirers of the work of the Egyptian novelist, playwright, screenwriter to meet at a round table and once again to remember his unforgettable works, thereby paying tribute to the memory of the great master of words.
