THE PHILOSOPHER'S TASK IS TO CURE THE SOCIETY OR RE-READING THE HERITAGE OF THE FARABI

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Department of Middle East and South Asia, is conducted webinar on translation and scientific commentary on the book «Al-Huruf» (Book of Letters) Abu Nasr Al-Farabi, by Ghasem Pourhasan Darzi on November 17, 2021. The guest of the webinar, Ghasem Pourhasan, noted that he wrote four books about the treatises of Abu Nasr al-Farabi, the last of which is called "Al-Farabi and Al-Huruf: linguistic and philosophical thoughts." Dr. Pourhasan pointed out that the most important of Al-Farabi's works is the treatise of Al-Huruf and this treatise has been little studied. For this reason, he translated the treatise Al-Huruf into Persian for careful research and wrote commentaries to resolve the philosophical questions it contained.  Until now, researchers have argued that Al-Huruf is based on the writings of Greek philosophers, but the Iranian scholar disagrees. In this book, Dr. Pourhasan explains in detail why he disagrees. In particular, the treatise Al-Huruf is one of the most important works among the treatises of Abu Nasr al-Farabi, devoted to social issues, the relationship between religion and philosophy, all sciences studied through language and all types of sciences related to language and the relationship between them. According to Dr. Pourhasan, the treatise Al-Huruf fully meets not only the needs of society at that time, but also the needs of modern society. Therefore, Dr. Pourhasan believes that it is necessary to re-read the treatise Al-Huruf and other works of the scientist and study them from a new point of view. In this work, al-Farabi as a philosopher discusses the morality of society, the well-being of people, culture and power in society. From this point of view, the treatises of a native of the Muslim world Abu Nasr al-Farabi should be studied primarily by representatives of the Muslim society and applied in modern life. Al-Farabi's legacy, including the treatise Al-Huruf, is a full of ideas that answers all questions of society, heals and directs a lost and depraved society. And philosophers are the healers of society. Al-Farabi was the first to point out that a society with a developed philosophical thought does not go astray and is always developing. In conclusion, Dr. Ghasem Pourhasan stressed that this work is the common heritage of all mankind, since the ideas expressed in the treatise Al-Huruf are common to all societies. The webinar guest spent eight years translating and commenting Al-Huruf. Dr. Pourhasan also shared that he plans to publish the fifth book "Reason and Power", dedicated to the legacy of Abu Nasr al-Farabi. The webinar continued with questions and answers.

The webinar was attended by teachers and students of the Faculties of Oriental Studies, Philosophy and Political Science, as well as specialists who study and translate the treatises of Abu Nasr al-Farabi.
