An international practical conference "Integration for Life" organized by the Faculty of Medicine and Health of the University was held at al-Farabi Kazakh National University, which is aimed at preparing students for actions to eliminate emergencies in the case of a devastating earthquake.

The large-scale event was attended by the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan Lieutenant General Yuri Ilyin, Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev, representatives of ministries and departments of the NGO "National Medical Association", Red Crescent Kazakhstan, scientists, teaching staff and students.

The program of the conference included tactical exercise to adequately react to possible earthquake, a flash mob "Integration of Life", visit to the Al-Farabi Museum, as well as plenary and sectional sessions.

The head of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, stressed the importance of measures for prevention of emergency situations. Noting the need to systematically strengthen the work to prevent and minimize the consequences of natural and man-made disasters, he claimed: "We hope that Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will become a constructive platform for the exchange of experience and become in the near future the base of the advisory and coordination center on emergency issues for educational organizations not only in Almaty, but throughout the republic."

Thanking the leadership of the University for cooperation, the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan Lieutenant General Yuri Ilyin noted the contribution of KazNU to the training of “high-class specialists who will make the country recognizable all over the world in the future.” “The number of emergencies in the world is growing every year. Melting glaciers leads to mudslide danger, severe fires signifies climate change issues. We have entered the phase that requires humanity to make joint efforts to preserve life and health. Within the framework of this international scientific and practical conference, we have the opportunity to exchange experience, opinions and ideas to find new associates in emergency prevention” - the Minister stressed.

The plenary session of the conference "Integration of Life" contained reports made by: Deputy Head of the Department of Emergency Situations of Almaty Yerlan Alibekov, Head of the Academy of Civil Protection named after M. Gabdullin of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Colonel Syrym Sharipkhanov, Head of the Center for Military Medicine of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Colonel of the Medical Service Yerzhan Smayyl, etc.

The skills of responding to a magnitude 8 earthquake were trained. The scenario included partial collapses of buildings and local fires occurred on the territory of KazNU. According to plan, classes were held to study documents regulating the procedure for the preparation and implementation of civil protection measures, evacuation of students from the academic buildings, psychological and medical assistance to victims. The skills of extraction and evacuation of victims from a car, from the roof with the use of climbing equipment were also worked out.

At the end of the forum, the participants laid flowers at the monument to frontline medics and the memorial in the Park of 28 Panfilov Guards.
