AL-FARABI GLOBAL FORUM

KazNU named after al-Farabi took part in the International scientific-practical conference "Global Forum al-Farabi", which took place in Islamad (Pakistan) and became one of the final events of the 1150th anniversary of the outstanding scientist and thinker in the outgoing year.

A large-scale event was held by the Standing Commission on Cooperation in Science and Technology (COMSTEC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, under the patronage and participation of the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi.

The forum was attended by over 150 people from 17 countries, including prominent Farabi scholars from the leading universities of Pakistan, the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Qatar, Kazakhstan and other countries, representatives of various international organizations, as well as the diplomatic corps accredited in the country.

Kazakhstan was represented by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the OIC Berik Aryn, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Pakistan Akan Rakhmetullin and the head of the Al-Farabi International Center at KazNU Bekzhan Meirbayev.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Global Forum, President of Pakistan Arif Alvi emphasized the enduring relevance of al-Farabi's teachings for humanity in general and the Islamic world in particular. In this regard, he called for mobilizing efforts to make the much-needed breakthrough in the field of science and technology, relying, inter alia, on the spiritual and intellectual heritage of al-Farabi.

OIC Deputy Secretary General for Science and Technology Askar Musinov informed the participants about a special resolution unanimously adopted by the Foreign Ministers of the OIC Member States with a recommendation to regularly hold international events to popularize Al-Farabi's scientific heritage not only in the OIC countries, but also at the global level.

Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the OIC, Ambassador to Saudi Arabia B. Aryn spoke about the large-scale scientific and practical events held this year in Kazakhstan and abroad, dedicated to the Year of al-Farabi, stressing that the work of the great thinker is the heritage of all mankind, consonant with the current humanitarian agenda of the XXI century.

During the two-day forum, the participants comprehensively discussed the main features of al-Farabi's worldview, the key provisions of his works on philosophy, linguistics, metaphysics, psychology, their influence on the formation of the views of scholars of the Islamic world and Western countries in the Middle Ages and Modern Times.
