The team «Jailau» of Al-Farabi KazNU Science and Technology Park reached the final of the Solar Decathlon China 2021 international competition and had the opportunity to present its complete solution for an environmentally friendly and smart house in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, on the eve of the 2021 Winter Olympics in China.

The Solar Decathlon China 2021 international competition, organized by the China Overseas Development Association, was announced in January 2020. Since then, the organizers have received a large number of applications from all over the world. After evaluation by experts, a total of 15 teams from 33 universities of 12 countries entered the final stage of the SDC 2021 competition, including: University of California, Berkeley, University of Nottingham, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Tsinghua University, The University of Michigan, The Oslo School of Architecture and Design, Technical University of Denmark, Thomas Jefferson University, RMIT University, etc. The competition was organized by the China Overseas Development Association.

The team of Al-Farabi KazNU presented a model of a green solar house that meets the principles of sustainable development. The authors of the project are the «Jailau» team headed by Ruslan Utebaev, Candidate of Technical Sciences, a leading specialist of the Engineering and Science-Intensive Technologies Cluster of KazNU. The team has been working on the project concept for several months. A competition jury evaluated the efforts of talented scientists. The team made it to the final, in which a real green, sunny house will be built according to the project. The Chinese side bears all the financial expenses for the construction. It should be noted that all models of residential buildings submitted for the competition have almost zero energy consumption, i.e. they use various renewable energy sources.

«I believe that our team will represent our country with dignity in this international competition», commented Amirkhan Temirbaev, Director of Al-Farabi KazNU Science and Technology Park. – The Green Technology Center operates on the basis of our University, which was opened on the initiative of Rector of KazNU Galym Mutanov. Our sunny house will add to the park of environmentally sustainable and comfortable «green zone» facilities».

The Solar Decathlon China competition has gradually developed into a diversified platform combining competitions, exhibitions, forums, training courses and a smart park. The competition generates not only advanced solar energy technologies, but also new ideas related to them. SD China has witnessed the development of China's new energy industry over the past ten years. The policy of China today is to attract the best alternative energy ideas from around the world.
