Al-Farabi KazNU held the first «World Heart Day» at the Student Service Center «Keremet». The Higher School of Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine and Healthcare together with the Research Institute of Cardiology and Internal Medicine (NIIIKiVB) organized and carried out a number of events within the framework of the «World Heart Day».

According to statistics, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death and disability in the world. Each year, they claim more than 17 million human lives. Recognizing the importance of this fact, as well as the role of preventing the development of heart disease, the World Heart Federation first organized and held in 1999 World Heart Day. This action was supported by the World Health Organization, UNESCO and the cardiological community. And now this day is celebrated annually in Kazakhstan.

The purpose of the event is to raise public awareness of preventive measures and early signs of cardiovascular disease, as well as initiate comprehensive preventive measures against coronary disease and stroke in all population groups, especially among young people. This year's World Heart Day is held under the motto «Heart for Life». In the framework of World Heart Day, an action was held to teach blood pressure measurement and inform students and employees of Al-Farabi KazNU about measures for the primary prevention of diseases of the cardiovascular system and the principles of a healthy lifestyle.

Students and staff received expert advice from leading experts, doctor of medical sciences cardiac surgeon K.B. Abzaliev, Professor N.G. Nurgalieva, cardiac surgeon M.E. Kuzhukeyeva G.T. Kasenova. Residents of KazNIIK and WB and interns of KazNU taught students the rules of measuring blood pressure. The students were greatly interested in the master class on Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS), which was conducted by certified trainers of KazNU, resuscitation doctors G.T. Kamalova, J.A. Abdymoldaeva and the head of the simulation center Ye. B. Zhantleu.
