The most popular running start in Central Asia – «Almaty Marathon» took place in Almaty. It was attended by 17 thousand athletes from 53 countries.

The «Almaty Marathon» was attended by teachers and students of the Department of Mechanics of Al-Farabi KazNU. The Marathon (42 km) was run by Associate Professor of the Department of Mechanics Alibayeva Karlygash, half a marathon at a distance of 21 km was mastered by the Specialist of the Department Nurtleu Karkinbekov and 4th year students Amirkhan Temirkhanov, Alibek Moldagaliyev. Running distance of 10 km was reached by undergraduates of the Faculty. Almaty Marathon is a charity project that promotes a healthy lifestyle.

According to the information provided by the organizers of the competition, part of the funds from the entry fees of participants will be directed to the construction of sports grounds in special children's institutions.
