Almaty hosted a two-day international seminar «Initiative for the Rapprochement of Islam: Prospects for Peace and Conflict Resolution in OIC Member States», organized by the OIS General Secretariat, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Al-Farabi KazNU.

The event was attended by diplomats from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, representatives of the diplomatic corps of foreign countries in Kazakhstan, prominent scholars and experts who discussed issues of a joint Kazakh-Turkish Islamic rapprochement initiative for the peaceful settlement of disputes between the OIC member states, and unresolved conflicts on the territory of Islamic states.

Thus, welcoming the participants of the seminar, KazNU’s Rector Galym Mutanov highlighted that the OIC is an integral part of the global political architecture and acts as the core of the entire Islamic community, preaching the postulates of Islamic solidarity and social and political responsibility.

Kazakhstan since the moment of joining the OIC member countries has been actively involved in its activities. Initiatives put forward by Kazakhstan on the way to strengthening interstate relations, economic and humanitarian cooperation of the Islamic world have received a positive response and support from the members of the Organization.

«In this regard, the adoption of collective measures in the field of policy formation, aimed not at global confrontation and collision, but integration, becomes a particular necessity. An important role in this process is played by the OIC, which this year marks 50 years, and its main mission is to promote the ideas of unity and harmony both within the Islamic Ummah and globally», - the Rector of KazNU emphasized.

In turn, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman in Kazakhstan, Mr. Sayd bin Mohammed Ali al-Barami, expressed gratitude to the Kazakh side for the idea aimed at establishing peace and security. «Within the framework of cooperation with the OIC, at the initiative of the Leader of the Nation N.Nazarbayev, in 2017, the first ever Summit on Science and Technology was held, the Islamic Organization for Food Security was established with its headquarters in the capital of Kazakhstan. In the near future, the 12th round of inter-Syrian negotiations with the participation of the guarantor countries will take place in the capital Nur-Sultan» - said Mr Side bin Mohammed Ali al-Barami.

The Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Kairat Lama Sharif, spoke about the work on implementing initiatives of Kazakhstan and called for a new relationship paradigm to be developed through defining the concept of Islamic reconciliation as a political platform for joint work in the future. During the seminar, panel sections were held in which the history and nature of conflicts in Islamic countries, practical measures for bringing together and resolving conflicts based on confidence building, identifying and addressing their root causes were discussed. The participants exchanged experience in the field of security, human rights, the rule of law, and got acquainted with the policy and the role of OIC in this matter.

It should be noted that, KazNU heading the UN Global Hub on Academic Impact, actively participates in the implementation of sustainable development goals, as well as initiatives and programs of international organizations whose activities are aimed at ensuring the security and sustainable development of mankind.
