A versatile and leading biologist, Prof. Dr. Zihni Demirbağ paid an official visit to the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on 30^th March 2019, on invitation from the Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Prof. Zayadan Bolatkhan. Prof. Demirbağ is serving as a Head of the Department of Molecular Biology at Karadeniz Technical University, Trabzon, Turkey. The visit was taken place under the framework of joint supervision programme for Doctoral student, however, Prof. Demirbağ visit also contributed to the academic activities such as lectures for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students; conducting faculty seminars, participation in KazNU’s International Scientific Conference of Students and Young Scientists “FARABI ӘLEMI” as an international speaker; mentoring doctoral students, exploration of collaboration opportunities between KazNU and Karadeniz Technical University.

During the Conference “FARABI ӘLEMI” presented his research work titled ‘Enhanced insecticidal activity of Chilo iridescent virus expressing an insect specific neurotoxin’, in which he apprised the participants that how an insertion of a toxin gene into Chilo iridescent Virus (CIV) provides opportunities to control a wide range of pest insects, such as weevils, using an iridovirus.
