Expected results of teaching

Expected learning outcomes:

  1. To analyze modern scientific knowledge about geosystems of various territorial ranks and classifications on the basis of knowledge of the main provisions of philosophy, basic laws and methods of natural sciences for the formation of integrative directions in the theory and methodology of modern geological and geographical science;
  2. Demonstrate a modern system of knowledge and interdisciplinary methods in the organization and planning of scientific and applied research and educational process for the development of domestic geology, geomorphology, geoinformation cartography;
  3. Use the basic theoretical knowledge of natural sciences about the earth's surface topography to study and map modern relief-forming, geological and geological engineering processes based on remote sensing data and GIS technology;
  4. To analyze innovative methods of processing, analysis and synthesis of spatial information for the organization of scientific research of geodynamic processes on a regional scale and their estimation;
  5. Apply the methods of engineering geomorphology to solve practical problems and document the ecological situation in technogenic-developed territories and predict its spatial and temporal changes;
  6. Use methods of mapping the earth's surface topography, geodynamic processes based on the analysis of geographical and aerospace information to develop predictive models of geosystems and assess their environmental and socio-economic consequences for society;
  7. To evaluate the nature and capabilities of remote sensing methods for monitoring and modeling geological and geomorphological processes and phenomena and monitoring the ecological state of geosystems based on geoinformation technologies.
  8. To assess the paleogeomorphological, ecological-geological and ecological-geomorphological conditions of the territories on the basis of the analysis of changes in the relief in the qualitative and quantitative aspects and to make recommendations on the rationality and possibility of using the territories from the ecological point of view;
  9. To develop new methodological and technological methods for forecasting and modeling geomorphological risks under anthropogenic impact on a local and regional scale to determine the degree and assess the degradation of natural components using GIS technologies;

10.  Compare traditional and innovative methods and technology of digital modeling for the compilation of thematic maps of geological and geomorphological systems and their effective use in the implementation of applied projects and scientific research;

11.  Present the results of research and analysis of geosystems using innovative methods for planning and forecasting monitoring of the dynamics of modern geomorphological, engineering-geological processes and phenomena;

12.  To carry out educational activities, to work in a team, in a scientific team, to make reasoned conclusions and convince of their rightness; to demonstrate readiness for independent scientific activities, to communicate with people in an official and informal setting

Academic activities

The academic activities of the EP are carried out: 

-        within the framework of existing regulatory documents and guidelines in the field of higher education in the field of geographical sciences, as a result of the implementation of regulations governing the educational and methodological process at the university;  

-        generalization and dissemination of new normative legal acts concerning methodological work;

-        current and long-term planning of educational and methodological work of the university;

-        coordination of the educational and methodological complex of the discipline (UMKD) of the department for compliance with regulatory legal acts, the working curriculum and the educational program;

-        monitoring the provision of the educational process with educational and methodological materials, documenting the results;

-        development of teaching materials; development and implementation of a working curriculum

Scientific activity

To implement the EP «7М05215- Geomorphology and geodynamics of the earth's crust» at the Faculty and the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics there is an Educational and Laboratory Cartographic Center (ULCC), which includes:

-        laboratory of geoinformation mapping;

-        remote sensing laboratory;

-        laboratory of geodesy and cartography;

-        Center for Geoinformatics and Young Scientists;

-        center for receiving and archiving operational meteorological information;

-        geocamera.

-        geo-informational cartographic services for various areas of the economy; - glaciers and permafrost zone of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

-        natural and technogenic seismic hazardous regions of Kazakhstan;

-        mudflows and snow avalanches of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

-        zones of fluvial risks (floods and waterlogging, waterlogging) in Kazakhstan; - regions of desertification in Kazakhstan;

-        degradation of land resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan

International activity

Academic mobility of students in the magistracy of KazNU named after al-Farabi is carried out within the framework of interuniversity agreements / agreements or joint projects: a tripartite agreement / agreement of a student, sending and receiving universities for internal academic mobility and invitations for external academic mobility.

Master students undergo research internships at leading universities in the world, and, in particular, in Germany, Austria, Turkey and China. The internship gives undergraduates the opportunity to study professional courses in depth, improve their English, and work in scientific laboratories.
