Training of highly qualified scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel capable of solving actual problems of methodology and technology of spatial development of geosystems based on knowledge, principles and methods of modern geography to develop recommendations for the restoration and preservation of the ecological state of geosystems

Expected results of teaching

Expected learning outcomes:

  1. Use modern scientific geographic knowledge about spatial systems of various territorial ranks and classifications in the educational practice of higher education and introduce the integration of this knowledge using information technologies;
  2. Select and demonstrate the use of innovative methods and promising trends in modern geography in planning scientific research and educational process;
  3. Possess theoretical knowledge and apply information technologies in solving scientific and practical problems, analyzing and interpreting data to forecast the development of natural processes and phenomena;
  4. Use different methods of processing geographic and mapping information in the analysis and solution of modern topical problems of regional natural-technogenic geosystems;
  5. To develop new ways of mapping natural-man-made hesystems based on various methods, including space satellite systems for monitoring and controlling the environment;
  6. Demonstrate the development of new ideas and digital technologies in cartographic modeling and forecasting of natural and technogenic geosystems;
  7. Summarize and evaluate the results of integrated regional and national environmental monitoring and implementation ways to control the ecological state of geosystems;

10.  Justify the choice of research methods and assess the results of the main provisions of project research, present research results in a professional environment;

11.  Demonstrate readiness for self-development, self-realization, use of creative potential and independent research work in the field of environmental design and forecasting of natural and technogenic systems, critically evaluating the results and conclusions as their own research and production work.

Academic activities

The academic activities of the EP are carried out: 

-        within the framework of existing regulatory documents and guidelines in the field of higher education in the field of geographical sciences, as a result of the implementation of regulations governing the educational and methodological process at the university;

-        generalization and dissemination of new normative legal acts concerning methodological work;

-        current and long-term planning of educational and methodological work of the university;

-        coordination of the educational and methodological complex of the discipline (UMKD) of the department for compliance with regulatory legal acts, the working curriculum and the educational program;

-        monitoring the provision of the educational process with educational and methodological materials, documenting the results;

-        development of teaching materials; development and implementation of a working curriculum

Scientific activity

To implement the EP "7M05210 - Natural and Technogenic Risks" at the Faculty and the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics there is an Educational and Laboratory Cartographic Center (ULCC), which includes:

-        laboratory of geoinformation mapping;

-        remote sensing laboratory;

-        laboratory of geodesy and cartography;

-        Center for Geoinformatics and Young Scientists;

-        center for receiving and archiving operational meteorological information;

-        geocamera.

-        regional and local problems of rational use of natural resources and environmental protection;

-        hazardous natural and man-made phenomena and processes, their forecast and mapping;

-        recreational assessment and forecasting of areas of development of natural and man-made risks;

-        study of water-air basins in Kazakhstan;

-        geo-informational cartographic services for various areas of the economy; - glaciers and permafrost zone of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

-        natural and technogenic seismic hazardous regions of Kazakhstan;

-        mudflows and snow avalanches of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

-        zones of fluvial risks (floods and waterlogging, waterlogging) in Kazakhstan; - regions of desertification in Kazakhstan;

-        degradation of land resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan

-        mountainous and lowland regions of Kazakhstan;

-        - urban and rural areas of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

International activity

Academic mobility of students in the magistracy of KazNU named after al-Farabi is carried out within the framework of interuniversity agreements / agreements or joint projects: a tripartite agreement / agreement of a student, sending and receiving universities for internal academic mobility and invitations for external academic mobility.

Master students undergo research internships at leading universities in the world, and, in particular, in Germany, Austria, Turkey and China. The internship gives undergraduates the opportunity to study professional courses in depth, improve their English, and work in scientific laboratories.
