EP purpose

High-quality training of an interdisciplinary specialist of the highest qualification in the field of biology, capable of interpreting the basic principles of modern natural science and biology; possess modern methodology of scientific research and the skills of working on modern scientific research equipment, as well as systematize and interpret scientific theories and concepts of the latest trends in biology in order to further apply this knowledge in the implementation of dissertation research; carry out independent scientific research based on correct descriptions of the object and subject of research, the choice of methodology with a projection on the development of promising innovative areas of biology; assess and determine the significance of one or another product of one's own and another scientific activity, present and defend one's own scientific opinion in scientific discussions using the working language of the conference; to participate in the development of modern theoretical and experimental research methods in order to create new promising tools, in the organization of work on the practical use and implementation of the results.

ON1. Demonstrate fundamental, systemic knowledge in the field of biology and methods of teaching general biological disciplines in educational institutions (theoretical and methodological principles of biology, conceptual and terminological apparatus of biological sciences, current biological trends in neurobiology, biomedicine, biotechnology, modern trends and approaches);

ON2. To improve the level of teaching biological disciplines through the wide use of modern methods of processing and interpreting scientific data using digital computer technologies. Synthesize and transform biological knowledge in the process of solving educational and educational problems; to develop teaching materials for conducting classes and extracurricular work in biological disciplines in universities;

ON3. Conduct a critical analysis, assessment and synthesis of new ideas, problems, approaches and trends in the field of biology; critically evaluate the results of scientific research, modern theories, problems and approaches, new trends in the study of the functions of living organisms. Generate independent original approaches, new ideas, hypotheses and ways to solve them in the field of modern biology in the process of participating in international grants;

ON4. Interpret the basic principles of modern biology, apply them in practice, systematize and interpret scientific theories and concepts of the latest trends in modern biology in order to further apply this knowledge when choosing initial theoretical positions; implementation of the obtained results of innovative achievements into production (prepatents, patents, copyright certificates and acts of implementation);

ON5.    Apply theoretical and methodological provisions of new directions in science when analyzing the functional state of a biological object of research, conduct independent research with a projection on promising new directions in biology; reasonably and reasonably present scientific results for discussion in scientific discussions and publications in rating journals of international databases;

ON6. Implement scientific and scientific-technical programs and projects in the fields of food, chemical, medical industry, agriculture, biotechnology (updating the range of food products through the use of nano-developments, improving chemical products, biotechnological processes);

ON7. Introduce technological advances in the fields of biology and biotechnology into production with the aim of creating new promising biological agents for protecting plants and animals, medicines, nanomaterials;

ON8. Act as an expert in the field of standardization and optimization of scientific and industrial products (pharmacopoeia, educational standards, scientific projects, etc.);

ON9. Demonstrate the ability and willingness to participate in the development of modern theoretical and experimental methods of biological research, as well as the willingness and skills in organizing work on the practical use and implementation of the results of their own research;

ON10. Bring digital and computer information into the system in order to create a safe databank (environmental monitoring; collections of microorganisms; digitized herbarium; gene pool of plants, animals, microorganisms, humans);

To promote the integration of new developments in biology into various branches of industrial production, the complex application of biochemical, microbiological, anthropophysiological, cybernetic knowledge to create technological production lines and obtain various types of products and applications in the medical, agro-technological and biotechnological applied direction.

Academic activity

The educational program "8D05101-Biology" is a postgraduate educational program with a scientific and pedagogical training direction. Educational services are carried out on the basis of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi KazNU with the participation of the departments: biodiversity and biological resources, biophysics, biomedicine and neuroscience, genetics and molecular biology, biotechnology. The training is carried out for three years. During the first semester, doctoral students master educational disciplines with the direction of training in cell culture, modern problems of population ecology, biology of stress, molecular biology and genetics, biophysical regulation of body functions and modern problems of human and animal physiology. Further, the direction of training doctoral students is carried out in the implementation of research work in the following areas: genetic variability, molecular biology, cell culture, topical issues of toxicology, embryology, cytology, histology, biotechnology, biodiversity of resources, problems of biophysics, biomedicine and neuroscience, biology of stress, etc. In the process of implementing research practice and research work, the doctoral student conducts research on the basis of research laboratories of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, research institutes CS MES RK, medical centers Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and abroad in research laboratories of leading foreign universities, according to the agreement and the signed memorandum. The research work of doctoral students includes scientific internships, participation in research conferences, writing and publishing scientific articles in journals recommended by CCSES and foreign top-rated journals included in the Web of Science (Clarivate Analitics), Scopus databases. After the successful completion of research work, the doctoral student implements his doctoral dissertation in text format and goes to defense.

Teaching in the educational program is occupied by a strong teaching staff, represented by 3 academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 3 corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 12 professors, 8 associate professors and 8 PhD doctors. The degree of degree is 100%.

Training is conducted in Kazakh, Russian and English. The educational process in doctoral studies according to the educational program provides each student with the most favorable conditions for mastering all stages of education, acquiring cognitive, functional and systemic competencies and obtaining an academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) under the educational program "8D05101-Biology" in full compliance with the requirements of the Law " On Education ”, state compulsory education standards and other normative documents. The faculty is provided with a material and technical laboratory base, an information base, a library of KazNU named after al-Farabi, the House of Young Scientists, the Palace of Students, a sports complex, the Keremet medical center and the Keremet student service center.

Scientific activity

The scientific component of the educational program of postgraduate education is formed from research work, the preparation of scientific, methodological publications and the implementation of a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The faculty has two research institutes: Research Institute for Biology Problems and Biotechnology and Scientific Research Institute of Ecology Problems.

The results of scientific research are published by doctoral students in the journals of al-Farabi KazNU: Bulletin (ecological series), Bulletin (Biological series (Experimental Biology)) (included in the list of journals recommended by CCSES), International Journal Biology and Chemistry (included in the Web of Science database (Clarivate Analitics)). Doctoral students conduct approbation of scientific works at International research conferences, and publish articles in journals recommended by the CCSES MES RK and in foreign top-rated journals included in the Web of Science (Clarivate Analitics) and Scopus databases.

International activity

To implement one of the key principles of the Bologna process - the principle of promoting academic mobility - Al-Farabi KazNU encourages training or research during a certain academic period in a foreign institution of higher education and science with the obligatory transfer of credits for educational and / or research work.

According to EP 8D05101-Biology, academic mobility is carried out in the form of scientific internships. Scientific (research) internship - activities for the collection, analysis of information and materials of a scientific-theoretical and scientific-practical nature for writing a dissertation, a monograph in a specialty and / or preparing a textbook, study guide, etc. on the basis of the library fund and other resources of other universities and countries.

Accreditation.

The educational program "8D05101-Biology" is accredited by the Kazakhstan Association for Engineering Education KazSEE for the period 06/23/2020 - 06/22/2025. The EP is accredited by the European accreditation agency for educational programs ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik e. Al-Farabi KazNU is a recognized leader among the universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan in training highly qualified scientific personnel - doctors of philosophy (PhD).
