EP purpose

High-quality training of scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel of higher qualification in the field of meteorology, capable of:

-     interpreting the current problems of atmospheric physics;

-     interpreting scientific theories and concepts of modern trends in meteorology and their further application in their research;

-     carrying out and coordinating research in accordance with the chosen methodology, focused on obtaining reliable scientific results;

-     carrying out research work on republican programs and international projects in the field of hydrometeorology, publishing the results of scientific research in high-ranking journals;

-     applying modern information technologies to solve professional problems.

Educational outcome

ON1. to assess critically the current problems of meteorological science caused by human processes;

ON2. to introduce new technologies related to the automation of processing methods, calculations, forecasts and estimates of hydrometeorological parameters;

ON3. to investigate atmospheric processes based on the principles of optimized management and observation of global and regional changes in the state of the atmosphere;

ON4. to adapt modern software in the field of climate and meteorological forecasting to the conditions of Kazakhstan;

ON5. to develop scenarios for regional climate change and take early and comprehensive measures to adapt to them;

ON6. to participate in the work of the Regional Association and the Program Working Groups of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), which includes climatology, climate monitoring and numerical prediction methods;

ON7. to monitor climate change in Kazakhstan;

ON8. to calculate sectoral climate indices for adaptation and risk management based on WMO software;

ON9. to investigate the influence of atmospheric circulation on the occurrence of dangerous weather phenomena on the territory of Kazakhstan;

ON10. to apply modern methods and technologies in weather forecasting;

ON11. to establish scientific relations with foreign partners for joint research, the results of which are published in high-rated journals; apply modern methods of scientific research in the hydrometeorology field;

ON12. to synthesize and transform interdisciplinary knowledge in the process of solving educational, scientific and research tasks; to carry out pedagogical activities: conduct independently classroom activities, educational practices; develop educational and methodological complexes of disciplines; implement research results in practical educational activities; observe the rules of pedagogical ethics; show respect for the personality of students; manage the pedagogical activities of structural divisions of the University.

Academic activity 

Academic activity of the EP is carried out:

-    within the framework of existing regulatory documents and methodological recommendations in the field of higher education in the field of hydrology science;

-    as a result of the implementation of regulatory documents regulating the educational and methodological process at the university;

-    generalization and dissemination of new normative legal acts concerning methodological work;

-    current and long-term planning of the educational and methodological work of the university; coordination of the educational and methodological complex of the discipline (EMCD) of the department for compliance with regulatory legal acts, the working curriculum and the educational program;

-    monitoring the provision of the educational process with teaching materials, documenting the results;

-    development of teaching materials; development and implementation of the working curriculum.

Scientific activity

Scientific directions of the Department: fundamental and applied research of hydrometeorological processes of different spatial and temporal scale, the interaction of the atmosphere and the ocean, the study of the laws of modern climate change and their impact on socio-economic development, the formation of water resources; recreational assessment of the regions of Kazakhstan; development and development of physical and mathematical models of the natural environment (atmosphere, ocean, inland waters, etc.).); a study of the predictability of hydrometeorological processes and the development of methods of hydrometeorological forecasts of different lead time, including forecasts of hazardous and severe weather events.

Material and technical base of EP:

-     Training and laboratory meteorological center (ULMC), which includes:

ü  laboratory of meteorological measurement methods;

ü  laboratory of aerology and radiometeorology;

ü  training meteorological station with automated information-measuring system "Weather»;

ü  weather training Bureau;

ü  station atmospheric monitoring, measuring complex "SKAT»;

ü  center for reception and archiving of operational meteorological information;

ü  SYNOPTIC archive.

-     Distance learning centre – opened with the assistance Of the regional hydrology centre of the world meteorological organization with the support of the world Bank.

-     Laboratory of climate change.

-     Comsats centre for climate and sustainability (CCU).

-     Environmental monitoring laboratory.

-     Water resources laboratory.

-     Laboratory of GIS for geographical studies.

-     Laboratory of geoinformation mapping.

International activity

The academic mobility of doctoral candidates is carried out within the framework of interuniversity agreements / joint projects: a tripartite agreement / contract of the PhD student, sending and receiving high school for internal academic mobility and an invitation for external academic mobility. Doctoral students passed research internships at leading and prestigious foreign universities: University of Lincoln (UK), Aberystwyth University (Wales), University of Reading (England), University of Marburg (Germany), University of Greifswald (Germany), Kiel University (Germany), Valencia Technical University (Spain), University Paris-1 Pantheon-Sorbonne (France), University of Oulu (Finland), Jordan University of Science and Technology (Jordan), Russian State Hydrometeorological University (Russia), Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia).

Lecturers of the educational program undergo internships, educational courses abroad to exchange experience, gain new competencies, and improve educational skills.

Quality assurance (Accreditation, rating, work with employers)

International accreditation, national accreditation.

This educational program has passed the international accreditation of the agency ACQUIN, the validity period of accreditation is up to September 30, 2023. According to the rating of educational programs among universities of Kazakhstan IAAR (Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating) and IQAA (Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education ) takes the first places.
