Learning outcomes

Expected learning outcomes:

1. Demonstrate modern scientific knowledge of cartographic and geoinformation modeling of spatial systems of various territorial ranks and classification based on the integration of knowledge of spatial modeling and geoinformatics using the methodology of modern cartography and GIS technology to increase the level of development of domestic cartography, its potential

2. Interpret the knowledge system and remote sensing data of the Earth as an object of research using computer technology in the planning of scientific and applied research and educational process

3. Build and apply the logical matrix of the legend in the design of cartographic works of various purposes and scales using geoinformation technologies to solve the problems of cartography, analysis and forecast of the development of mapped objects and phenomena

4. Apply cartographic information and technology of digital modeling of spatial systems using software in the design of cartographic works and solving problems of regional management

5. Demonstrate the use of innovative methods and promising technological trends in geoinformation cartography based on the knowledge system of spatial modeling in the planning of scientific and educational programs

6. Interpret methods and techniques for characterizing factors of changes in the structure and dynamics of spatial systems based on the knowledge of their visualization for the development of predictive cartographic models of geosystems and the assessment of their environmental and socio-economic consequences for society

7. To provide a comparative analysis of the methodology of local, regional, national cartographic monitoring based on knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of existing global navigation satellite systems for cartography to monitor the dynamics of the state of the environment

8. Apply and update digital technologies based on the knowledge of digital mapping in the preparation of forecast maps of natural and man-made risks for making management decisions at the regional and national levels

9. Demonstrate the development of new methodologies and technologies for spatial modeling and forecasting based on the knowledge of geoinformation mapping for effective use in the implementation of applied projects

10. Develop programs for regional and national cartographic monitoring of the environment and ways to implement monitoring systems based on knowledge of the conceptual foundations of software in the systems ENVI, ArcGIS, ERDAS, Serfer and others for monitoring the ecological state of geosystems

11. Design thematic and large-scale series of forecast maps using knowledge of spatial modeling and various sources of information for economic planning and management decision-making

12. Work in a team, in a scientific team, make reasoned conclusions and convince of their rightness; demonstrate readiness for independent activity, communication with people in an official and informal setting in three languages

Academic activities for the implementation of the educational program:

- Within the framework of existing regulatory documents and methodological recommendations in the field of higher education in the field of cartographic and geographical sciences;

- as a result of the implementation of regulatory documents regulating the educational and methodological process at the university;

- generalization and dissemination of new normative legal acts concerning methodological work;

- current and long-term planning of the educational and methodological work of the university; coordination of the educational and methodological complex (UMKD) of the discipline of the department for compliance with normative legal acts, working curricula and educational programs;

- monitoring the provision of the educational process with teaching materials, documenting the results;

- development of teaching materials; development and implementation of the working curriculum

 Scientific Activity services

To implement the EP "7M05214 - Geoinformation cartography" at the Faculty and Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics there is an Educational and Laboratory Cartographic Center (ULCC), which includes:

-          laboratory of geoinformation mapping;

-          Remote sensing laboratory;

-          Geodesy and Cartography Laboratory;

-          Center for Geoinformatics and young scientists;

-          Center for receiving and archiving operational meteorological information;

-     Geocamera.


Training of personnel on the OP "7M05214 - Geoinformation cartography" is carried out for the following areas of scientific activity:

- republican and regional problems of modern mapping of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

- dangerous natural and man-made phenomena and processes, their forecast and mapping;

- recreational assessment and mapping of the regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

- mapping of water and air basins of regions and large cities of Kazakhstan;

-     cartographic service of various areas of the economy.

International Activity Services

Undergraduates of the 2nd year are provided with a research internship at leading universities of the world as part of the academic mobility program. In particular, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology USA, Texas A&M University, other universities in the USA, as well as Germany, Austria and Hungary. The master's student will have the opportunity to study professional courses in depth, improve English, and work in scientific laboratories.

Teachers of the educational program undergo internships abroad, educational courses for the exchange of experience, acquisition of new competencies, compliance with modern directions of research work.
