EP purpose

The purpose of the educational program is to train highly qualified, competitive in the international labor market, scientific personnel in the field of virology with professional competencies corresponding to the global labor market, using information technologies in scientific, educational and production activities based on modern interdisciplinary methodology of fundamental and applied virology research.

Educational outcome

Graduates of this program must be able to:

1)        to draw up documents for obtaining sanitary and epidemiological conclusions for various bioobjects and biomaterials as a result of applied research in order to prevent potential biological threats, using knowledge in the field of Kazakhstani and international legislation on ensuring biological safety for inactivation of infectious agents, biosecurity of personnel and the environment;

2)        to obtain new data on the mechanisms of action of viruses on various biomodels: animal, plant and microbial cells as a result of experimental research based on methods of molecular hybridization of nucleic acids, cell lines, typing of isolated viruses;

3)        to carry out the identification of viruses for fundamental and applied research used in medicine, veterinary medicine, agriculture, food industry;

4)        to formulate scientific problems in the field of virology, interpreting modern scientific achievements in this area, selecting modern methodology and technology for their solution;

5)        to create management systems for biological safety levels in order to recognize, control and study potential virological threats based on the creation of models for predicting the possible consequences of the release of an infectious agent into the environment to calculate the effectiveness of possible anti-epidemic measures;

6)        to develop strategies and research programs in the field of virology for government organizations, firms, enterprises, companies and institutions of biological, medical, environmental and agricultural profiles, using innovative project management based on modern theories and molecular methods of virological analysis in related research areas;

7)        to develop new methods, technologies and innovative products to solve relevant problems of biomedicine, agriculture, ecology, food industry as a result of fundamental research based on methods of laboratory diagnostics of viral infections, Omics technologies, identification of viral markers based on immune responses;

8)        to introduce into practice the results of scientific research in the field of virology, receiving acts of implementation, conclusions, patents and publish them in journals with a high citation index;

9)        to develop antiviral drugs, vaccines for the treatment and prevention of viral infectious diseases based on virological, molecular biological, immunological and biotechnological methods;

10)    to evaluate the practical value of antiviral drugs used in medicine, veterinary medicine, agriculture, food industry on the basis of monitoring the functional states of organisms (plants, animals, and human);

11)   to make expert opinions on scientific projects in the field of virology, new products, biological products based on critical thinking and practical understanding in the field of modern virological research;

12)    to conduct training sessions in universities in the field of virology, using practice-oriented, innovative pedagogical technologies, digital educational resources, developing sets of methodological support for the discipline and teaching aids.

Academic activity

The training is carried out on the basis of the Research Institute of Biological Safety Problems (RIBSP) with state-of-the-art laboratories and lasts six semesters

Scientific activity

At the present time, RIBSP SC MES RK is carrying out work in the following scientific areas: "Development of technologies for the preparation of test systems for the diagnosis of infectious animal diseases by the ELISA method", "Development of technologies for the preparation of test systems for the diagnosis of infectious animal diseases by the PCR method", "Development of technologies preparation of prophylactic drugs against dangerous and highly dangerous infectious diseases of humans, animals and birds", "Development of a biological model for assessing the quality of vaccine biological products", "Development of modern biotechnology of vaccine biological products based on recombinant strains", "Development of cell systems for the cultivation of microorganisms and the preparation of biological products", "Biotechnological bases for obtaining, maintaining, refreshing and depositing strains of microorganisms for the production of biological products," Biotechnological bases for obtaining bacteriophages", "Biotechnology of cultivation of microorganisms", "Technological bases for the preparation of other forms of biological products", "Quality control and technology of biological products".
