EP purpose

The program is aimed at shaping the personality of a biologist with critical thinking, practical skills, leadership qualities, competencies in biology, biomedicine, ecology; able to work in educational, research, environmental, sanitary-epidemiological and other institutions:

- To carry out biological, genetic, biomedical, microbiological, biochemical studies in the field and laboratory conditions using modern equipment, computing tools, software;

- To use in personal practice modern research tools and innovative technologies for the translation of knowledge of the basic concepts of natural science;

- Analyze scientific and scientific-technical information on the subject of research based on the use of information technologies;

- Work in biomedical research laboratories using modern biological and medical equipment, using methods of medical biochemistry, biophysics, nanotechnology, methods of cell and tissue cultivation, biochemical and physiological studies of cells, tissues, organs and the human and animal body;

- Plan scientific and applied research using modern methods and geoinformation technologies in the field of studying plant objects and systems for sustainable conservation and development;

- To use modern methods of general and molecular genetics in perinatal centers, in vitro fertilization (IVF) laboratories for the diagnosis and prevention of hereditary pathologies and solving problems of reproduction of the population;

Educational outcome

Upon completion of this educational program, students are expected to be able to:

  1. demonstrate ideas about the processes and phenomena occurring in living and inanimate nature, their relationship and interdependence; about biodiversity of living organisms, about the basic laws of evolution and functioning of living systems; on the environmental principles of rational nature management; on the role of biological laws in solving social problems; on the methods of cognition of nature necessary for solving problems in the performance of professional functions, including when teaching biological disciplines in secondary and secondary vocational educational institutions (gymnasiums, lyceums and colleges);
  2. apply knowledge and understanding about the main areas of biological science: in botany, zoology, cytology and histology, anatomy and physiology of humans and animals, biology of individual development, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, biophysics, ecology in the performance of professional activities, including educational and pedagogical;
  3. demonstrate skills in collecting and preparing scientific materials, processing the results of field and experimental research, teaching in secondary general and vocational educational institutions, organizing and implementing extracurricular activities with schoolchildren, carrying out educational activities in the field of biology and ecology;
  4. master the methods of biological, biotechnological, environmental analysis and practice them in the context of scientific research activities;
  5. plan and conduct  experiments in laboratories of research institutes and educational institutions on biological objects to identify the mechanisms of their vital activity in accordance with international requirements and principles of bioethics;
  6. collect, process, interpret biological material in the field and in a laboratory using biostatistical methods; 
  7. analyze scientific literature, compose reviews, write abstracts, articles, report and defend research results reasonably at scientific conferences, public hearings;
  8. assess the quality and safety of the obtained biological, genetic and biotechnological products and manufactures for compliance with GLP rules ;
  9. carry out diagnostics, expertise, monitoring of biological objects in biological and biotechnological and other laboratories for solving problems of ecology, control of GMOs;
  10. master the methods of biochemical, molecular genetic, cytological, histological analysis for use in biomedical practice;

Academic activity

Academic activity of the EP is carried out:

- within the framework of existing regulatory documents and methodological recommendations in the field of higher education;

- planning of the principle of the educational process in the regulation of educational and methodological work;

- formation of an appropriate level of qualification, measured by the achieved learning outcomes;

- current and prospective planning of educational and methodological work of the university;

- coordination of the educational and methodological complex of the discipline of the department for compliance with regulatory legal acts, the working curriculum and the educational program.

International activity

Students of 3-4 years have the opportunity to study at leading universities in the world as part of the academic mobility program. In particular, there is an agreement with the University of Salento (Italy), Eberswalde University of Sustainable Development (Germany), Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania). Students take courses, study Italian, work in scientific laboratories. More than 20 students have already been trained.

Teachers of the educational program undergo internships, educational courses abroad to exchange experience, gain new competencies, and improve educational skills.
