The purpose of the educational program is to train highly qualified specialists with professional and scientific competencies and skills capable of independently performing all types of research and teaching activities in the scope of their professional activities to meet the needs of science, education and production in the field of fisheries and agro–industrial complex.

Educational outcome

ON1 To develop and optimize the technological processes of growing various types of fish in industrial fish farming. To simulate environmental risks when breeding hydrobionts in farms of the industrial type.


ON2 To apply modern methods and technical means of measuring parameters of technological processes, fishing gear and technical means of aquaculture. To apply modern methods and technical means for measuring the parameters of industrial aquaculture equipment.


ON3 Develops the principles of construction and use of ecological models of complex systems and use of simulation models of the process of management and functioning of ecosystems. Assess natural and anthropogenic transformed aquatic ecosystems using bio-monitoring methods.


ON4 Systematically and logically use knowledge about the factors of the principles of fish settlement and the formation of the aquatic environment and the evolution of water bodies to explain the principles of fish settlement and the formation of ichthyocomplexes. Identify the specific, morphological and biological features of the fish that form the appropriate complexes to explain the characteristics of the littoral, pelagic and abyssal ichthyocomplexes.


ON5 Uses the methods of analysis and monotoring of ichthyocenoses, methods and means of information processing using modern equipment. To determine the need for changes in the field of water resources management, setting goals in the field of water management.


ON6 Consider the future aspects of the problems, foresee the consequences of making management decisions. To make decisions at all levels of the water management system in order to rational use and protection of water resources.

ON7 Systematically understand the specifics of the technological basis for the cultivation of commercial freshwater and brackish-water aquaculture facilities, in the conditions of industrial cultivation, planting and feeding standards, technological equipment for ultrasound for valuable cultivation objects.


ON8 Develop and adapt methods of breeding, breeding and feeding valuable commercial fish species in ponds, pools, cages and other fish tanks using fresh water.


ON9 Use, evaluate and update the main technological methods of growing and feeding commercial fish products, industrial technologies based on a closed water supply, spawning farm.


ON10 To analyze the state and perspective directions of development fisheries and aquaculture, fishing and principles of fisheries regulation. To use knowledge of the species composition and biology of individual species of fish or fish communities to assess the state of stocks and the functioning of fish resources.


ON11 To own modern methods of mathematical analysis, main methods of working on a PC with applied software tools to study the rational use of fish resources.


ON12 Apply modern methods and technical means for measuring the parameters of industrial aquaculture equipment.To analyze the results of the study and interpret data for the protection of water bodies and hydrobionts.

Academic activity

To obtain the qualification «Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)» according to the educational program «8D08401-Fisheries and industrial fisheries»:

mastering theoretical disciplines in accordance with the curriculum (45 credits);

completion of a foreign internship according to an individual doctoral student's plan (8 credits);

passing of pedagogical practice (10 credits);

research practice (10 credits);

At least 3 publications on the topic of doctoral dissertation in Scopus journals and CCSON journals (31 credits);

writing and publishing scientific publications at international conferences (17 credits);

conducting one-time scientific seminars on the topic of research in each semester, a total of 6 times (26 credits);

writing and defending a dissertation (12 credits). During

the 3-year period of full-time study, a doctoral student will master a total of 180 credits, of which 45 credits are allocated for theoretical training, 28 credits for internship and practice, 48 credits for writing scientific articles and 57 credits for writing and defending a doctoral dissertation.

Doctoral dissertations/projects are subject to mandatory verification for plagiarism in the UNIVER system before defense.

Scientific activity

To implement the educational program, the department has scientific laboratories in the following areas•

* Animal Ecology;

* Morphology of animals;

* Parasitology;

Research and Production Center: "Aquaculture and fish diseases";

Collection - formalin room for invertebrates and vertebrates, where about 500 species of animals are collected.

The department also has scientific - school seminars, where undergraduates, doctoral students and young teachers report on the results of their scientific work.

Undergraduates and doctoral students in the specialty "Fisheries and industrial fisheries" annually go on a scientific internship abroad.

International activity

The department's partners in the doctoral degree program of the specialty "8D08401 - Fisheries and industrial fisheries" are foreign universities and institutes with which agreements on academic mobility and cooperation have been signed: Institute of Cytology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Laboratory of Cellular Pathology (Russia), Laboratory of Pharmacological Research.

The Department has its own branch on the basis of Zoology of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
