EP purpose

The goal of the educational program is to train highly qualified specialists, competitive on the international labor market, who meet the modern demands of science, education, management and production; with comprehensive knowledge of biotechnology and related disciplines; able to independently creatively plan and carry out original fundamental and applied research, synthesize and integrate innovative knowledge to solve scientific and industrial problems in biotechnology and related fields, as well as create advanced technologies, contributing to scientific and technological progress, socio-economic and cultural development of society.

Educational outcome

1. critically evaluate modern scientific achievements and problems of biotechnological science and production; predict trends, directions, patterns of development of biological science;

2. demonstrate the in-depth systemic knowledge required to solve critical problems in modern scientific research, manufacturing, management in the field of biotechnology and related fields of science;

3. to generate original ideas for obtaining new knowledge, creating new technologies and innovative products that are promising for solving urgent problems of biomedicine, bioinformatics, agriculture, ecology, nanotechnology, food industry, etc.

4. develop, plan, coordinate and conduct original scientific research characterized by academic integrity, based on modern theories and methods of analysis in the field of biotechnology;

5. apply modern information technologies and specialized programs for processing the obtained data and their bioinformation analysis, demonstrating a high level of computer literacy;

6. critically evaluate the results and draw adequate conclusions based on the obtained experimental data, analyzing the quality and effectiveness of the selected scientific methods;

7. present the results of the work performed in the form of reports, reviews, presentations, scientific reports and publications in rating publications;

8. to justify reasonably and defend their point of view in the scientific community at international scientific forums, conferences and seminars, including in a foreign language.

9. conduct a patent search, critically analyze scientific and technical literature in order to provide information support for their scientific research and development;

10. carry out teaching activities in the basic educational programs of higher education in the field of biological sciences, using innovative methods and information technologies in the educational process; develop normative documents regulating the content, design and educational and methodological support of the educational program,

11. apply a set of acquired knowledge and skills in organizational activities, management of a scientific or production team, developing strategic and operational plans for the development of state organizations, firms, enterprises, companies and institutions of a biological, medical, environmental and agricultural profile, as well as assuming responsibility for making important decisions in the context of rapid renewal and growth of information flows,

12. develop and implement quality management systems for biotechnological products: conduct an examination of scientific projects and research results, scientific articles, regulatory documents in the field of science and education, as well as scientific and methodological documentation for quality control and safety assessment of food, medical, veterinary and agricultural biologics.

Academic activity

EP is developed taking into account the requirements of the market, the opinions of employers and students. Employers of leading enterprises and organizations of the region take an active part in the development of work curricula for EP, the formation of training trajectories within the EP, compilation of a catalog of elective disciplines.

The teaching staff of the EP is represented by highly qualified specialists in the field of cellular and molecular biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, food biotechnology, molecular genetic technologies, genetic engineering, bioinformatics. These are specialists who are authoritative in scientific circles of the Republic of Kazakhstan and abroad, who have proven their professional and scientific viability by their own successes, as well as by the achievements of their students. Teachers participate in the implementation of republican programs and research projects funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the World Development Bank, and the IAEA. 90% of the teaching staff participating in the implementation of EP 8D05105-PhD "Biotechnology" are leaders of scientific projects, or executors of these studies. The degree of the teaching staff is 100%. Among the teaching staff participating in the preparation of doctoral students 1 academician of NAS RK, 1 corresponding member. NAS RK.

According to the program "Attracting foreign scientists to teaching" at the Department of Biotechnology, the following professors conduct classes:

Faye Bernard - PhD, Professor, Director of the Camel Research Center, Center for Agricultural Research for International Development, France.

Scientific activity

The teaching staff of the graduating departments are actively involved in scientific activities. To date, the department carries out 12 research projects. 90% of the teaching staff participating in the implementation of EP 8D05105-PhD "Biotechnology" are leaders of scientific projects, or executors of these studies. Many doctoral students enrolled in EP 8D05105- PhD "Biotechnology" are executors of scientific grants carried out at the department.

 

The results of scientific research of the teaching staff of the department are reflected in a large number of publications both in the near and far abroad, including in publications with a non-zero impact factor, indexed in the international database of Thomson Reuters and Scopus. PPPs are published in prestigious indexed editions: International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Biotekhnologiya, Microbiology resource announcements, Eurasian Chemico-Technological Journal, Molecular Biology, International Journal of Molecular Sciences, BMC Genomics, International journal of biology and chemistry, BioMed Research International, Journal of Biotechnology, International journal of resent technology and engineering.

Agreement on the invitation of an employee of the department as a foreign teacher, conducting joint research: Center de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement (CIRAD)

Over the past 2 years, the Department of Biotechnology has signed international agreements on scientific and technical cooperation with foreign higher educational institutions, scientific organizations: University of Bergen (Norway), University of Belyastok (Poland), Suleyman Demirel University (SDU), (Isparta, Turkey), Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB), (Tianjin, China), Salento University (Italy).

Quality assurance (Accreditation, rating, work with employers)

EP 8D05105- "Biotechnology" in 2016 passed the international accreditation ASIIN.

In 2020, the KazSEE agency also accredited OP 8D05105- "Biotechnology" (the accreditation starts on 06/23/2020 - ends on 06/22/2025)

The educational programs of the Department of Biotechnology also participate in all ratings of the IAAR, NKAOKO and for several years have taken 1st place in Kazakhstan.

The EP is developed taking into account the requirements of the market, the opinions of employers and students.

In order to improve the content and ensure the quality of the EP, monitoring and performance evaluation is carried out with the participation of students, graduates and employers based on the collection, analysis and management of information through online questionnaires. Employers of leading enterprises and organizations provide assistance both in the development of curricula for EP, reviewing textbooks and tutorials, as well as on the selection of practice bases.
