"RUSSIAN CUISINE" (ACQUAINTANCE WITH RUSSIAN NATIONAL CUISINE)

For several years at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, students from Turkmenistan continue to study Russian at the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature of the Faculty of Philology and World Languages. Foreign students develop their communication skills not only in the classroom, but also at meetings in the "Russian World" ethnoclub, where they acquire the skills of conducting discussions in Russian and show creative activity. The club aims to help foreign students improve their language skills and adapt to the new social and cultural environment.

               At the present time, when the whole world has switched to a remote work format, the Russkiy Mir ethnoclub also conducts its events online. Here is another open educational event on the topic: "Russian cuisine" was held on the MS Teams platform. The students supported the proposed topic with great pleasure, since they were interested in sharing their experience of tasting Russian food, as well as their personal skills and abilities in cooking Russian dishes.
               At the meeting, the guys got acquainted with the names of Russian dishes, as well as with the subtleties of their preparation. Of course, each of them had certain ideas about Russian cuisine and what they eat in Russia, as well as in Kazakhstan, every day. As it turned out, in most cases, their ideas about Russian cuisine coincided with reality. The students were guided by their personal feelings and experience, as some of the girls know how to cook dumplings and borscht. Many tried pancakes, caviar, black bread, buckwheat porridge, but did not know how to cook them. The guys talked about the dishes of the Turkmen cuisine that resemble or are close in taste or composition to Russian food. They were especially interested in learning about the etymology of the names of such familiar okroshka, dumplings and kvass.
               The meeting was active - the guys asked questions, were interested in the origin of the names of Russian dishes. At the end of the evening, we agreed to meet offline after quarantine to cook together and treat each other to Russian cuisine.
