According to the UN Sustainable Development Goals: 2 Elimination of hunger, where research is carried out and issues of ensuring food security and improving nutrition are resolved, as well as ensuring sustainable development of agriculture,  on 11.10.2023 an event on the topic: “Will GMOs save the world from hunger?” was organized at the Department of Biotechnology  with students of the specialty Biotechnology under the leadership of Professor Atabaeva S.D., c.b.s.  Mukhataeva K.A., c.b.s. Ultanbekovi G.D.

On October 7, a round table on the topic “Health is wealth” was held. During the event, students were told about the ways and principles of a proper lifestyle, and students shared their thoughts and opinions on the topic of health.

On October 3, 2023, at 16.00, 4th-year students of the specialty "Biotechnology" and curators-advisors Atabayeva S.D., Shoinbekova S.A., Asrandina S.Sh. within the framework of the program "Ainalandy nurlandyr" held a curatorial hour on the topic "Teacher – an a great person" dedicated to the Teacher's Day.

On October 2, 2023, a curatorial hour dedicated to the International Day of the Elderly was held in the 15.00 in the 412 audience, with students of the 3 course in Biotechnology and curators-editors Asrandina S.S., Atabaeva S.D., Shoinbekova S.A. The purpose of the event is to draw attention to the problems of the elderly, educate goodwill and respectful attitude towards the elderly, enrich knowledge about the history and traditions of the holiday.

The main goal of this project is to environmentally regenerate former military sites while also mitigating climate change by implementing advanced M×g phytotechnology over a multiyear period on complex contaminated military lands in Ukraine (Nemishayeve, Borodyanka rajon, Kyiv region and Dolyna, Ivano-Frankivsk) with the physicochemical conversion of biomass waste while ensuring by-product valorization. 

Project objectives for Al-Farabi Kazakh National University:

Tasks will be carried out at the Department of Biotechnology under the guidance of the head of the Biotechnology department A.S. Kistaubayeva and Zhas Galym PhD Aigerim Mamirova.

- Check rhizosphere interactions and influencing factors that mediate phytotechnologies.

- Demonstrate the greenhouse gas mitigation effect of using advanced phytotechnology on mixed contaminated military lands supplemented with by-products.

Moreover, the common goal of all partners is to strengthen education in the field of climate change and the circular economy. Communicate information about advanced phytotechnology to innovative users and share knowledge among NATO countries and partners.

At the end of 2022, the University of Tsukuba offered a student exchange program with our Al-Farabi Kazakh National Universityi. Already at the beginning of 2023, the results were announced - 25 students were selected. Two people were selected from the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology - Evgeniya Tyapkina and Kamilya Khalikova. Let us share your story. On October 2, at 15.00, 4th-year students of the specialty "Biotechnology" together with curators-advisors Atabayeva S.D., Shoinbekova S.A., Asrandinа  S.S. held a curatorial hour dedicated to the Day of the Elderly.

The purpose of the event is to show due respect to the representatives of the older generation in science and to express gratitude to those who have put a lot of work and feat to the development and creation of our country. The students prepared a presentation dedicated to the elderly people of the country, who are the property of the people, who have a lot of life experience and can pass it on to the younger generation. During the event, the respect of young people for the elderly, the role and importance of elders in the formation of family values were noted. In addition, they discussed the activities carried out by the state to help the elderly. They gave poems to elderly people.

The meeting between Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi KazNU Kurmanbaeva M.S. and Professor of Shaanxi University of Technology and Science (Xi'an, China) Jian Zha took place from September 25 to September 28, 2023.

From September 8, 2023, to September 16, 2023, a business trip was undertaken by Dr. Sc., Professor Savitskaya I.S. and Ph.D., Associate Professor Kistaubayeva A.S. to the Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Agronomie et des Industries Alimentaires, Nancy, France.

The purpose of the business trip was to conduct collaborative scientific research as outlined in the project schedule of AR09259491, titled “Biotechnology Utilizing Polysaccharide Matrix with Probiotic Biofilms for the Production of Combined Dairy Products” within the framework of SDGs 2. Zero Hunger and 12. Responsible consumption and production, as well as the development of cooperation and expansion of interaction with foreign partners according to the criteria of QS World University Rankings. The results obtained from the collaborative research would be incorporated into a publication in a journal with an impact factor of no less than 80.

During the webinar, the achievements of biotechnology in obtaining varieties of agricultural crops with high yield and nutritional value were announced, as well as scientific research in this direction was presented. Students fully realized that they would be able to realize their professional qualities, improve their skills and achieve career growth in economically promising areas of biotechnology.
