In recent years, issues of higher professional education have been sharply discussed. This is because there is an acute shortage of highly qualified specialists, because very often university graduates are not able to use the acquired knowledge in practice. To solve this problem, it is necessary, among other things, to integrate education and science. On April 15, 2022, the staff of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics visited the Institute of Genetics and Physiology to discuss the integration of science and education within the framework of the General Agreement between al-Farabi KazNU and research institutes subordinate to the SC MES RK. The Institute of Genetics and Physiology is a long-term partner and base of practice for students of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. Long-term fruitful cooperation between the department and the Institute, including, among other things, the graduation of joint undergraduates and doctoral students, as well as the involvement of scientists of the institute in the educational process, led to the creation of a branch of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics based on the Institute in 2019.

The Institute’s General Director Zhunusova G.S. expressed her great desire to work together with the department in the development of educational programs and the conduct of disciplines by the staff of the Institute. Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics Zhunusbayeva Zh.K. spoke about the educational programs "6B05105 - Genetics", "7M05105 - Genetics", "7M05104 - IT-Genetics", "8D05104 - Genetics" with a proposal to introduce a minor module in the magistracy and doctoral studies with a training base at the Institute. Deputy Head for Educational and Methodological Work Lovinskaya A.V. spoke about the innovations introduced this academic year in the development of educational programs. Deputy Director of the Institute Bekmanov B.O. expressed his wish to improve the material and technical base of the department for conducting laboratory classes and mastering practical skills by students. The issues of personnel training and defense of PhD doctoral dissertations, organization of production and research practices, implementation of joint scientific projects were also discussed.

Deputy Director of the Institute of Genetics and Physiology Bekmanov B.O. conducted a excursion of the laboratories of the institute, talking about the main scientific areas. At the moment, the Institute has the following laboratories: molecular genetics, animal genetics and cytogenetics, experimental mutagenesis, population genetics, genetic monitoring, genetics and reproduction of forest crops, pharmacological research, etc., research is being carried out on Drosophila genetics, ecological genetics, mammals’ histophysiology and genetics, neurogenetics, oncogenetics and human molecular genetics, physiology of stress resistance in mammals and plants.
